Associate Medical Laboratory Technologists (AMLT) are responsible for the daily operations of the laboratory which include phlebotomy, electrocardiogram, spirometry and clinical laboratory work.
Responsibilities
- Perform daily operations of the laboratory
- Perform all procedures in accordance with laboratory standard operating procedures (SOPs)
- Perform phlebotomy, Electrocardiogram (ECG) and spirometry in an accurate, efficient and professional way.
- Perform Point of Care Testing (e.g. Prothrombin Time, glucose) and clinical laboratory tests such as urinalysis (e.g. Urine FEME, dipstick, pregnancy), haematology (e.g. full blood count, peripheral blood film, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, prothrombin time), biochemistry (e.g. HbA1c, neonate bilirubin), microscopy examination (e.g. fungal smear, high vaginal swab) independently.
- Ensure specimen identification, processing and storage of test specimens are in consistent with good laboratory practices
- Perform and verify quality control for all analysers prior to patients sampling
- Use of Laboratory Information System (LIS) to perform functions such as result entry, result validation and tracking for outstanding tests
- Ensure all test results provided for clinicians are accurate and reliable
- Ensure analysers/equipment are functioning properly and are well maintained.
- Notify medical technologist/lab in charge when instrument malfunction and make arrangements with BME or instrument vendor to service the instrument
- Notify inventory person in charge when reagents and stocks supplies run low.
- Perform and record internal and external quality controls and calibrations. Troubleshoot outliers in accordance to work instructions.
- Ensure ‘critical value’ are reported to the relevant personnel within 30 minutes
- Ensure daily maintenance and QC records are up to date.
- Ensure compliance to hand hygiene, workplace safety, International Patient Safety Goals (IPSG) and International Standardization of Organizations (ISO) and other applicable regulatory and accreditation requirements of the laboratory.
- Provide prompt and courteous service in person or over telecommunication to all external and internal customers (e.g patients, doctors, service providers, colleagues).
- Report adverse incidents and all workflow anomaly to supervisor
- Observe strict NUHS personal data protection act and observe internet/intranet cybersecurity guidelines.
- Perform other functions as delegated by supervisor and/or lead laboratory
Requirements
- Recognized Diploma in Biomedical Science, Clinical Laboratory Science or other relevant fields
- At least 1-3 years of experience in laboratory environment and/or relevant experience in phlebotomy preferred
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to communicate in vernacular languages are an added advantage
- Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment
- Team player with good interpersonal skills
