RESPONSIBILITIES
The SMU Urban Institute, launched in early 2024, is a university-level research institute dedicated to advancing an interdisciplinary research agenda. Leveraging SMU's strategic position as a dynamic management university in Singapore's city centre, the Institute aims to make a meaningful impact through the study of Asian cities. We are currently seeking individuals with specific skillsets to support the various ongoing research projects at the Institute.
The candidate will be responsible for collecting, compiling, and linking together the datasets related toindividual-level consumption, transportation networks, traffic, population, and Point-of-Interest data aboveinto a single dataset that is suitable for empirical data analysis. The candidate is also expected to carryout preliminary data analytics and contribute to modeling works.The candidate's core responsibilities are:
a) Data collection
b) Dataset compilation and maintenance
c) Data analytics
d) Solving and simulating quantitative spatial models
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's or master's degree in economics or finance.
- Previous research experience, especially in urban and regional economics, is highly preferred.
- Solid theoretical background in economics;
- Familiar with theories in urban and regional economics;
- Proficiency in statistical toolbox, preferably Stata;
- Proficiency in numerical analysis in MATLAB, FORTRAN, C, or Julia;
- Experience in working with large datasets;
- (Optional) Experience in working with *nix workstations.
- This position is only expected to commence in March 2025
