Job Description

The Design Director strategically influences every step of the consumer journey, creating a physical experience to achieves the goals and business performance metrics of our clients and partners through collaborating with the Innovation & Strategy, and Creative

• Develops the information architecture and framework that will inform creative solutions and allow the organization and our clients to make fact-based decisions as it relates to immersive digital technology.
• Develops insight-driven strategies for omni-channel retail, digital retail integration, e-commerce, and social media projects, with technology and financial responsibility for the planning and implementation of solutions.
• Develops methodology for design, development, and delivery of digital projects within the established creative design process.
• Drives business growth through the development and execution of transformative innovations and solutions that complement and parallel traditional brick and mortar channels.
• Champions and inspires the creative and design process, providing value added expertise and support in the development of creative design solutions that embrace innovative technologies.
• Identifies and builds relationships with strategic partners for digital content development, software development, audio and video design and integration, content management solutions, and custom fabrication and installation.
• Partners with organizational leadership to identify, develop, and implement strategic solutions for obstacles and opportunities for innovation so the business continues to grow.
• As part of the leadership team, manages and influences the ongoing financial performance to generate year-on-year revenue growth.
• Builds a strong partnership with Business Development leaders to develop the new business pipeline, driving strategic bets, informing target and aspirational goals, and participating in pitching and winning new business.
• Acts as a trusted advisor to key clients, successfully cultivating value added relationships and extending business through strong account management.
• Uncovers and mines new opportunities via our existing network and 3rd party partners.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in graphic design, fine arts, advertising, or a related field
• At least 7-10 years of experience in a senior design role, with a strong portfolio showcasing design leadership and expertise
• Stellar creativity and vision to turn briefs into compelling projects
• Excellent time-management, organizational, and analytical skills
• Great collaboration and communication skills
• Good team player and able to work in a fast-paced dynamic environment

The Role

We are seeking a hands-on Director of Design to lead our Growth design team. In this pivotal role, you will drive the design strategy and execution for products that fuel Airwallex’s growth and optimize revenue streams. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including Product Management, Engineering, Marketing, and Data Insights to create user-centered experiences that delight customers and drive business results.

Responsibilities

• In this role, you’ll report directly to the VP of Design and collaborate closely with cross-functional partners in Product, Engineering, Marketing, and Data
• Drive measurable business growth through pathfinding, experimentation, and optimization by focusing on the entire end-to-end user journey
• Hire, grow, and retain top design talent
• Manage, coach, and provide feedback to product and visual designers and leads to deliver the final product
• Uphold the craft, improve the process: Ensure the design bar is kept high across visual and interaction design, systems, information architecture, and content strategy

Requirements

• 12+ years of professional work experience
• 5+ years of experience leading a product design team, ideally focusing on growth and revenue projects
• BA/BS degree in graphic design, design communication, human-computer interaction, or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey design strategy to both technical and non-technical audiences
• Close attention to detail, ability to structure complex problems and inform decisions with data and first-principle insights
• Drive, grit, and persistence to take ownership and move ideas to reality in short periods of time
