Job Description
The Minimum Viable Product Studio (MVP Studio) of NUS Enterprise, Technology Transfer and Innovation, supports NUS startups in their prototyping journey by providing industry know-how and technical guidance in the productization of intellectual property. We are seeking a versatile mechanical design engineer with market-proven expertise in product design and development, to join our team as a Master Engineer (Mechanical Design).
As a Master Engineer (Mechanical Design), you will guide NUS startups through the mechanical design and development process. You will support the prototyping phase of NUS startups, including generating mechanical concept proposals and mechanical architecture, implementing detailed design using 3D modelling and 2D drawings, and ensuring full design integration at system level. You will collaborate closely with internal cross-functional teams and external vendors to deliver robust mechanical design solutions.
Duties and Responsibilities
Prototype Design & Development
- Generate mechanical concepts and provide mechanical architecture.
- Implement detailed design utilizing 3D modelling and 2D detailed drawings.
- Establish modular design and full product BOM structure.
- Create sub-assembly test plans and test reports.
- Ensure design robustness and full design integration at system level
- Collaborate with ID to implement human-centric styling solutions for mechanical designs.
Technical Advisor to NUS Startups for Mechanical Design & Development
- Facilitate startups in prototyping their mechanical designs.
- Provide technical guidance and design expertise throughout the development lifecycle.
- Collaborate effectively with internal team members, startups, NUS faculty members.
- Communicate technical concepts and solutions to non-technical team members and stakeholders.
Vendor Management
- Work with vendors on DFM for the required mechanical designs.
- Coordinate with vendors to ensure delivery timelines and quality standards are met.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree/ Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Market-proven mechanical 3D design experience in consumer products, automotive/industrial products, or medtech/healthtech instrumentation, with at least 12-15 years’ combined experience.
- Proficient in 3D CAD modelling, preferably in Pro-Engineer/Creo and Solidworks.
- Experience in casting, plastics molding, sheet metal design, and 3D printing.
- Advance geometrical dimensioning and tolerancing.
- Good knowledge in automation and mechanism design.
- CFD/flow simulation in analyzing flow/thermal characteristics.
- Completed and led at least 5 complete product design life cycle.
- Good knowledge in control systems.
- Strong troubleshooting skills at module and system levels.
- Proven team manager with excellent teamwork and collaboration skills, with the ability to mentor and guide startup teams
