St John’s Home for Elderly Persons is a Residential Home under the Ministry of Social and Family Affairs. We have been providing quality and compassionate care to seniors for over 60 years and will be transiting to a Nursing Home in 2026.
Objectives of this role
To manage nursing manpower, financial and training resources; deploying nurses to meet areas of service needs; overseeing the performance of nursing practices and departmental key performance indicators; leading a culture of continuous improvement in nursing quality, productivity and innovation; mentoring and overseeing succession planning for high-potential nursing staff to take up key leadership positions. The individual should be passionate, caring and be a visionary who is dynamic, decisive, with excellent people, leadership and communication skills.
Duties and responsibilities
· Appraise work performance of nurse leaders to support their professional development required for a high performing organisation.
· Approve action plans to effect improvements following Employee Climate Survey results or feedback from stakeholders.
· Approve nursing operational and budget work plans.
· Create a conducive work environment to improve staff welfare, nursing retention and promote work-life balance.
· Achieve a high standard of nursing based on MOH’s HCSA requirement to ensure optimal service delivery for the organisation.
· Develop emergency response or business continuity plans to mitigate and respond to any incidents and collaborate with relevant governmental authorities to deal with any incidents or crisis.
· Develop succession plans and mentor identified high-potential nursing staff to take up key leadership positions.
· Drive operational process improvement.
· Establish clear competency-based career progression pathways for nursing staff.
· Establish disciplinary frameworks for staff malpractices and negligence in the service provided.
· Establish procedures for service recovery.
· Evaluate staff performance management and coaching frameworks.
· Manage manpower resource, in alignment with Ministry of Health (MOH) staffing recommendations, to achieve efficiency in manpower utilisation to meet organisational needs.
· Provide consultation for stakeholders on manpower recruitment, retention strategies and initiatives.
· Set directions, targets and work plans aligned to organisational priorities.
· Provide guidance and help staff to achieve their workplan objectives and Key Performance Indicators.
· Investigate, resolve any conflicts, grievances and complaints, and provide the necessary feedback in a timely manner.
Requirements
· A Registered Nurse with the Singapore Nursing Board
· Master of Science in Nursing or Healthcare Administration
· A minimum of 10 years of experience in leading and managing nursing functions
· A strong background in clinical management, leadership, and resident care.
· A passion to work in a social service healthcare sector
· Possess good verbal and written communication skills
· Strong decision-making, problem-solving and critical-thinking skills
· Excellent leadership skill
· Experience in managing the Nursing department budget
