Roles and Responsibilities
- Admission of new patients to OR
- Ensure nursing care and able to relate with patient and relatives
- Manage patient files and records
- Prepare and perform all surgical procedures in a sterile manner, observing all principles of asepsis and sterility
- Prepare and maintain all surgical instruments in an organized and logical manner
- Conduct a full count of instruments and accessories before the start of an operation, after the closure of any major cavity, and the end of the operation
- Handle all sharps and contaminated waste in a safe and effective manner
- Assist with cleaning and transferring of patient to the recovery area
- Prepare and perform all surgical procedures in an appropriate manner, while observing all principles of asepsis and sterility
- Assist with surgical scrub as required
- Prepare the operating room and all equipment for each operation and ensure the functioning of such equipment
- Dispose of all sharps and contaminated waste in a safe and effective manner
- Assist with the cleaning and transferring of patient to the recovery area
- Register and record all instruments and sets received
- Report any anomalies in sets received (e.g. incomplete, broken instruments)
- At all times, ensure that both operating rooms and equipment are maintained in a permanent state of readiness
- Examining patients' histories for allergies or illnesses that would affect anesthesia
- Evaluating and preparing patients, providing education about surgery and recovery, and discussing the side effects of anesthesia with them
- Determining the amount and type of anesthesia needed for the patient and the best way to administer it.
- Preparing and administering the proper dose of anesthesia.
- Monitoring patients' vital signs and their dose of anesthesia during medical procedures.
- Overseeing patients' safety during anesthesia recovery.
- Evaluating patients' progress before, during, and after medical procedures.
- Performing some administrative duties, such as ordering anesthesia, training new staff, and overseeing department finances.
- Any other ad-hoc duties assigned
Requirements
- Candidate must possess Diploma/Degree in Nursing from a recognised institution as approved by Singapore Nursing Board
- SNB registered Nurse
- At least 2 years of experience in healthcare operating theatre settings
- Prior Experience as a scrub nurse would be preferred
