Key Responsibilities:

Assistant Professor (tenure track) Positions in Climate Science

As a part of the NRF Fellowship Project on Materials-by-Design, School of Materials Science & Engineering (MSE) is looking to hire a Research Assistant with expertise in high-throughput synthesis of inorganic materials and optimization using machine learning. The Research Assistant will build upon our team’s experience toward developing high-throughput experimental platforms for synthesis, characterization and functional performance testing (thermoelectric performance, catalytic performance) of a library of materials.  The Research Assistant will focus on synthesizing and characterizing inorganic materials, specifically inorganic chalcogenides for thermoelectrics and metal alloy catalysts for CO2 reduction.

Additionally, the Research Assistant will conduct in-depth structural and elemental characterization and analysis of the materials using XRD, SEM-EDX and XPS. Finally, thermoelectric measurements experiments will be conducted. The Research Assistant should be able to utilize design-of-experiments and high-throughput experimental workflows. In addition, materials science and metallurgical concepts such as phase diagrams, mapping and separating different phases and oxidation states of compounds and rapid structural analysis are required. Finally, machine learning will be applied to guide experimental campaigns.

Key responsibilities:

• Conduct synthesis of inorganic thermoelectric materials using various high-throughput synthesis techniques.

• High-throughput synthesis of materials for CO2 reduction will also be conducted.

• Develop new high-throughput methods, and accordingly modify hardware for their execution.

• Perform in-depth characterization of synthesized materials using XRD, SEM, and EDS.

• Deploy machine learning techniques to guide future experimental campaigns. In addition to regression methods (Gradient Boosting, Random Forest) it is desirable to be familiar with Bayesian Optimization.

The Earth Observatory of Singapore (EOS) seeks a Research Assistant in the areas of natural hazard impacts.

The candidate will work under the supervision of David Lallemant and Susanna Jenkins and will collaborate with the researchers from the ‘Integrating Volcano and Earthquake Science and Technology (InVEST) in Southeast Asia’ project, a 5-year project that aims to provide a holistic understanding of regional tectonics, volcanoes, the linkages between the two, and their cascading hazards and impacts in Singapore and Southeast Asia. 

Specific research/duties will include identifying potentially impactful hazard scenarios in the Southeast Asian Ring of Fire, contributing to numerical modelling of the hazard and its consequences, developing key case studies that can inform and support policy decisions, and preparing information and outputs in ways that can be used to communicate with policy makers and other risk stakeholders.

EOS is a Research Centre of Excellence at Nanyang Technological University Singapore that conducts fundamental research on earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tsunamis, and climate change in and around Southeast Asia, towards safer and more sustainable societies.

EOS maintains a regional network of geophysical observation stations in collaboration with neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia, that are supported by the EOS Centre for Geohazard Observations, as well as a Remote Sensing Lab (EOS-RS). Computational resources are available through a dedicated cluster and collaboration with the High-Performance Computing Centre of NTU. In addition, EOS hosts state-of-the-art analytical facilities for petrological and geochemical analysis, and a Community Engagement office that co-creates learning opportunities for a range of audiences to promote a safer and more sustainable future.

The Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information is looking for a Research Assistant/Research Associate/Research Fellow who is interested in examining the use of digital health technologies (health apps, wearables, exergames, VR/AR) to improve older adults’ physical health and mental well-being.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with highly acclaimed scholars from NTU, Singapore ETH Centre, and ETH Zurich and contribute to the development of a digital health tech ecosystem for older adults in Singapore.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct literature search

• Assist in development and conceptualization of surveys, experiments, and focus group/in-depth interviews

• Assist in data analysis of surveys, experiments, focus group/in-depth interviews, and “big data” from social media and health apps/wearables

• Contribute to research publications and presentations

• Assist in writing progress report and final research report

• Engage in the dissemination of the results of the research with the support of and under the supervision of the Principal Investigator

• Carry out administrative work associated with the program of research as necessary

Job Requirements:

• PhD and Master in fields including communication, psychology, sociology, or a social science related discipline. Bachelor’s degree with experiences in similar field are welcome.

• Prior experience in social science research (e.g., quantitative/qualitative projects) and/or research in the use of digital health technologies (eg., health apps, wearables, exergames, VR/AR) in older adults

• Good quantitative/qualitative data management and analytical skills (e.g., being able to analyze data using SPSS, MPLUS, R, and/or Python)

• Good communication and organizational skills (ability to work in a highly collaborative and multi-cultural team environment)

• Driven self-starter with good interpersonal communication skills

• Team player in a project setting, also with ability to work independently in a multi-cultural team environment

• Internationally recognized research track record as evidenced by journal publications and conference presentations
