[What the role is]
The Animal & Veterinary Service (AVS), a cluster of NParks, safeguards the health and welfare of animals through comprehensive and integrated programmes and works closely with partners in the veterinary and animal-related industries to strengthen capacities and enhance competencies in animal health and welfare. It is the main touch-point on animal and veterinary matters in Singapore and the first responder for all animal-related feedback. It also conducts public education and engagement programmes to foster a humane and gracious society for all, where pet owners, communities, and animals co-exist in greater harmony within our City in Nature.
You will be part of the Quarantine & Biosecurity Services team under the Veterinary Health Division (VHD) of AVS. As a member of the trans-disciplinary team AVS, you will be responsible for biosecurity and quarantine operations, animal examination and disease investigations, and providing professional and competent data analysis and research support for animal and zoonotic disease biosurveillance programmes across various sectoral partners nationally, with the objective of meeting NParks mission to create the best living environment through excellence in nature conservation, greenery and recreation, and veterinary care, in partnership with the community.
[What you will be working on]
You will be involved in the following duties:
- Conducting biosecurity inspections and surveillance of animals and animal products
- Carrying out risk assessments for movement of animals and animal products through Singapore
- Oversee daily operations at Changi Animal and Plant Quarantine (CAPQ)
- Managing non-compliances detected during import inspections
Working and communicating with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders such as importers and overseas government organisations on the import/transhipment/export of animals and animal products
Plan, lead and implement biosecurity projects from ideation to implementation
Contribute to the development and innovation to improve service delivery in CAPQ
Other administrative duties as required to ensure daily functioning of CAPQ
[What we are looking for]
Degree in Biological Science, Veterinary Science, Veterinary Medicine, or other related fields.
Previous experience working in animal or veterinary related industry will be an advantage.
Comfortable with handling live animals (dogs, cats, birds, small mammals, poultry, horses etc.).
Team player with initiative, drive, good interpersonal/communication skills, and able to work independently.
Good IT and data analytical skills would be an advantage.
Office Location:
The office location will be at Changi Animal and Plant Quarantine, Gate C7, Airport Cargo Road, Changi Airfreight Centre.
