Roles and responsibilities

You will be part of the Automation Team that will create products which will revolutionize the factory floor. You will support our automation projects (Automated Inspection Tools, Industrial IoT (IIoT) implementation, smart devices from assembly to deployment and/or tool development). Throughout this process, you will also be involved in the preparation of key engineering documentation and drafting technical specifications.

• Work with our engineering partners to get customer problems resolved

• Support automated systems' installation, testing and commissioning

• Automate procedure through our proprietary Innowave’s system implementation

• Install, test and configure Innowave’s proprietary automation system software

• Propose changes and improvements to increase efficiency of products and systems

• Give support in evaluating/testing new components/suppliers

Requirements:

• Students currently pursuing in any Engineering disciplines at ITE/polytechnic/local university, preferably Mechatronics, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering , Mechanical Engineering

• Internship commitment for more than 3 months

• Indicate date range of internship in “DD MMM YYYY to dd mmm yyyy” format

• Basic knowledge of Automation technology

• Soldering and wiring skill is advantageous

• Python or Arduino is a plus

• Able to read Basic EE Circuitry Design.

• Basic 3D drawings in CAD software (e.g. Solidworks) is preferred

The intern will work in the Production department of Keystone Cable factory. He will report to the Plant Manager (mentor) and work alongside engineers / technicians to identify opportunities for factory operations efficiency and productivity improvement.

Expected tasks / responsibilities

1. Job shadow / On-job training, OJT of Production Engineer to understand cable manufacturing process.
2. Problem understanding of current methods of manual production data collection with the intent of improving the process flow and to digitize where possible.
3. Data acquisition of shop floor data to set baseline targets for production improvement
4. Research and testing of hypothesis on production parameters we want to improve
5. Project management of one or two projects to improve factory productivity / efficiency using existing or acquired skillsets.

Learning outcomes and objectives

1. To allow intern to gain a good understanding of the work and responsibilities of a production engineer in a factory.
2. To project manage one or two projects that tackle factory productivity and efficiency problem statements.
3. To apply and extend intern’s skillsets on shop floor data collection and analysis with the objective of improving existing factory systems.

Job Description

An internship position for a student with manufacturing, chemical and/or mechanical background to obtain training in research and development, operations of demonstration plant, workplace health and safety in manufacturing environment for sustainable waste management.

Intern’s duties include:

1. Contribute to research and development activities at a manufacturing research facility (demonstration plant) through planned experiments and equipment operations.

2. Follow regulatory and statutory requirements, especially, workplace health and safety practices. Contribute to preparation and maintenance of process documentation, such as permits to work, risk assessments, safe work procedures and method statements.

3. Support site operation activities as directed by a supervisor.

4. Maintain and improve housekeeping. Ensure that waste, chemicals, product handling equipment and assigned areas are kept clean.

5. Resolve product quality issues arising from production or operation by working closely with team members.

6. Assist with other tasks as directed by a supervisor and company management.

Requirements for the intern:

Has hands-on experience with hand tools, minor repairs and maintenance of equipment, day-to-day troubleshooting of machinery/equipment..

Familiar with 3D CAD software: preferably, Autodesk Fusion.

Fabrica AI is reinventing how robots are developed. Currently novel robots take 5-20 years. We are building a design automation platform to bring it down to a month, and have already demonstrated significant progress by developing tile grouting robots in record time. Robotics simulation and reinforcement learning has been advancing a lot making it 1000x cheaper to train robots compared to 5 years ago, and as Jensen Huang said at Nvidia GTC 2024, "the ChatGPT moment for robotics may be just around the corner." A couple other companies are building on the same paradigm shift but we are the only ones using it to automate hardware design, not just software.

Building robots and a design automation platform together brings great synergy - the platform helps us develop robots faster than anyone else and the robots allow us to gather data and do experiments at scale. Data gathering can be done through partnerships with other robotics companies, but doing experiments is crucial for grounding the platform in reality and ensuring its usefulness. The grouting robots are already deploying daily at construction sites and bringing value to clients. We are currently negotiating sales worth around 500k USD. With manufacturing cost multiple times lower than companies using a traditional robotic arm, our robots have an ROI in weeks. Our robot is also small and simple to use, operating from a single button without the need to upload floorplans or do any complex setup. Soon we would be expanding into other simple and valuable robots for the construction industry.

We’ve raised over 2.5m USD from Hoxton Ventures, Credo Ventures, our Professor from Cambridge University, Woh Hup, and the owner of BHCC (listed construction company). We’ve 2500sqft of space in Singapore where we have over 20 team members, and 1200sqft of space in Czechia where we have our software team.

Your internship would revolve around real-world industry deployments taking us from a TRL of 7 to 9. You may be remunerated with a combination of salary and share options. • PCB, electronics design
  • Working with both hobbyist and industrial microcontrollers, single board computers, motor drivers etc.
