Job Overview:
The Operations Manager for Environmental Services specializing in Hazardous Waste Management will oversee the operations of hazardous waste disposal, treatment, and recycling services across various job sites. This role involves ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations, maintaining high safety and service standards, fostering client relationships, managing staff performance, and ensuring operational efficiency. The Operations Manager will also be responsible for budgeting, manpower planning, and continuous improvement of processes to enhance both service quality and profitability.
Key Responsibilities:
SOP Development & Implementation:
- Develop and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for hazardous waste management and ensure compliance across all assigned sites.
- Monitor and ensure that all hazardous waste operations follow industry best practices and legal regulations.
Client Relationship & Contract Renewal:
- Build and maintain strong, trusting relationships with clients to ensure long-term partnerships and successful contract renewals.
- Address client feedback and complaints promptly, ensuring that corrective and preventive actions are taken.
Training & Development:
- Oversee on-the-job training (OJT) for staff in hazardous waste handling, equipment use, and safety protocols.
- Ensure staff remain up-to-date with the latest environmental and safety regulations and technologies, including robotics and health policies.
Staff Management & Performance:
- Manage staff motivation, performance, and discipline according to organizational, HR, and government manpower policies.
- Lead recruitment efforts, interview applicants, and conduct performance reviews to maintain a competent workforce.
Manpower Planning & Deployment:
- Plan and allocate manpower efficiently across job sites to meet client requirements while ensuring cost-effectiveness.
- Oversee staff deployment based on site requirements and contractual commitments, ensuring timely completion of all projects.
Budgeting & Cost Management:
- Manage budgets for hazardous waste operations, ensuring costs remain within defined limits.
- Optimize resources to maintain profitability while ensuring quality service delivery.
Workplace Safety & Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with all Workplace Safety & Health (WSH) regulations and hazardous waste management standards across all assigned sites.
- Maintain up-to-date records of safety meetings, staff inductions, and any required documentation to meet regulatory requirements.
Operational Efficiency & Improvement:
- Continuously review operational processes to identify opportunities for improvement in efficiency, service delivery, and compliance.
- Propose and implement enhancements in work procedures, safety measures, and client satisfaction strategies.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5+ years of experience in hazardous waste management operations.
- Strong management, organizational, and analytical skills.
- Proven experience in decision-making, compliance management, and resource optimization.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with clients and staff.
- Strong leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and manage a diverse team.
- Bilingual in English and a second language (preferred).
- Proficiency in computer software, administration, and presentation tools.
- Knowledge of hazardous waste regulations and best practices.
- Ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
