Act as a team member, providing essential support to the Data Services Lead in the day-to-day operations of the Data Services team. This support aims to ensure the consistent delivery of high-quality services, uninterrupted system uptime, and round-the-clock accessibility of data services to support the University's diverse business systems.
Responsibilities:
Act as the Subject Matter Expert for data services-related products (Oracle, MSSQL, MySQL, WebLogic, WebSphere, JBoss, IIS, ASP.NET)
Manage daily BAU operation of database and middleware (DB&MW) related services.
Provide Level 2/3 support for DB&MW service-related queries.
Monitor DB&MW services availability and performance; proactively fine-tune its configurations to meet RTO.
Monitor and plan the capacity to meet the demands of the application workload.
Monitor and plan the backup schedules to meet RPO and comply with the data retention policy.
Create and maintain documentation of standard operating procedures (SOPs) for DB&MW administration, contributing to the knowledge base and facilitating knowledge transfer.
Create and implement automation scripts using tools such as PowerShell, Ansible, Python, etc to streamline deployment processes and reduce manual intervention.
Review and implement security best practices and apply regular ad-hoc security patches to ensure compliance with IT security policy.
Coordinate/Support with the application support teams for scheduled downtime such as DB&MW patching and upgrade.
Perform incident escalation in accordance with escalation procedures.
Coordinate with other functional teams and product support in incident handling, and ensure incidents are resolved or workaround within stipulated SLAs.
Provide input and finding for root-cause analysis.
Implementation of IT Initiatives and Solutions
Provide consultancy on data infra design for new systems.
Lead and drive data services initiatives and manage project deliverables.
Identify and drive the optimal solution for NTU and manage the implementation of these solutions.
Lead migration projects to transition applications to new DB&MW platforms, ensuring smooth transitions and minimal impact on operations.
Requirements:
A recognized degree in IT, Computer Science or related fields
Hand-on technical skills and know-how in administering database products (e.g., Oracle, MSSQL, MySQL database, and PostgreSQL) and related high availability technologies (e.g. RAC, Data Guard, AG).Â
Hands-on technical skills and know-how in administering middleware products (e.g., WebLogic, WebSphere, JBoss, IIS, ASP etc).Â
At least 6 years of hands-on experience in database and middleware administration in an enterprise or campus environment.Â
Experience in Windows, and Linux variants, preferably Red Hat and Ubuntu.Â
Possess relevant DevOps skillset and scripting skills for system automation, e.g., PowerShell, Ansible, Python etc.Â
Familiar with high-availability technologies and solutionsÂ
Proven track record of troubleshooting and resolving complex technical issues. Â
Experience in system, database and application performance tuning.Â
Experience in capacity planning, availability management and business continuity managementÂ
