Job position: R&D Engineer (VHF) Intern

VHF Communication Bot

Overview

Very High Frequency (VHF) radio communication is widely used in the maritime industry for essential ship-to-ship and ship-to-shore interactions. However, these communications often suffer from noise, language barriers, and overlapping speech, making them unclear and difficult to interpret.

The goal of this project is to develop an automated, accurate, and reliable system for transcribing and translating VHF radio communications. The system should deliver clear transcriptions and translations of each speaker’s input. If time permits, an additional feature will involve generating a situation summary based on the communication.

Due to limited availability of real-world data, this project will also involve data collection and generation, which could include sourcing open datasets or simulating relevant data using different methods.

Requirements

· Proficiency in shell scripting and Python programming

· Experience with Git for version control

· Interest or experience in Natural Language Processing (NLP)

· Familiarity with deep learning libraries such as PyTorch or TensorFlow

Responsibilities

· Collaborate with a team to prototype and explore solutions

· Contribute to the architecture design and development, tackling challenges like high reliability and scalability

· Research and implement technologies and approaches that align with project goals
