The College of Integrative Studies (CIS) at Singapore Management University (SMU is seeking to make one or two tenure-track appointments (at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor levels) in the area of Urban Informatics, broadly construed. We welcome applicants who are domain experts in urban food systems, corporate supply chain analysis, urban energy use and/or decarbonisation.

Senior candidates with a track record of leading international teams in externally-funded research programmes are especially encouraged to apply. Exceptional candidates at the Associate or Full Professor levels will be considered for tenure upon appointment. The CIS delivers the University's Core Curriculum and also offers a suite of programmes including Singapore's first and only individualisable major at the undergraduate level, a Masters in Sustainability, as well as interdisciplinary Master’s and Ph.D. programmes in Asian Urbanisms.

We are interested in candidates who are trained in Data Science/Analytics, Computer Science, Geographical Information Systems, Geomatics (all with an urban application), or in cognate disciplinary or interdisciplinary fields with an urban focus. Candidates who can demonstrate evidence of interdisciplinarity in both teaching and research are particularly encouraged to apply.

Applicants should be able to:

• Design and deliver postgraduate a course on “Computational Urban Analysis” to a diverse, multidisciplinary postgraduate audience
• As necessary, design elective courses that will be delivered as part of the Asian Urbanisms Master’s and PhD programmes
• Attract and supervise postgraduate research students
• Contribute to undergraduate teaching for the SMU Core Curriculum in the Technology and Society course baskets (see https://cis.smu.edu.sg/core-curriculum/overview) by delivering courses that will equip students from diverse backgrounds with a data science software foundation that ranges from introductory skills to more advanced techniques, such as cluster analysis, spatial regression, or machine learning
• Conceptualise and execute high quality research, and develop grant applications, on urban-related issues in Asia, broadly defined
• Participate actively in the research and educational communities at SMU, and contribute to at least one of the university’s three areas of strategic priority: Growth in Asia, Digital Transformation, and Sustainable Living
• Contribute to the dynamic intellectual life of CIS, as well as to interdisciplinary dialogue and exchange with colleagues from other Schools (such Computing and Information Systems, Economics, Law, Business, and the Humanities and Social Sciences)

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in either a computational disciplinary (e.g., Data Science/Analytics, Computer Science, Geographical Information Systems, Geomatics, all with an urban focus) or interdisciplinary (e.g., Urban Science, Urban Studies, Development Studies) field
• A record, or promise, of high-quality research and publication
• A record of excellence in teaching and supervision, ideally at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels
• A track record of being awarded external research grants is a benefit, but not a prerequisite

Scope of Work:

• Assist in preparing materials and equipment needed by teachers for all curricular and co-curricular activities.
• Assist teachers in distribution and collection of worksheets and notes, materials, and equipment to ensure smooth running of activity.
• Assist in preparation of laboratory apparatus, equipment, and teaching materials for scheduled laboratory activities.

Full Time Faculty, Tenure Track Position (open rank) in Sustainability, School of Social Sciences (SOSS)

Established in 2007, the SMU School of Social Sciences (SOSS) provides high quality undergraduate and graduate education expanding SMU’s pedagogical strategy to the study of society, government, and individuals embedded within an increasingly complex world. With faculty expertise and research spanning the disciplines of psychology, political science, sociology, and philosophy, SOSS’s research covers key thematic areas such as international development, policy and politics, Southeast Asian studies, social movements, and sustainability. The School aspires to make a significant and lasting contribution across sectors through its integrative approach to the study of social issues.

Sustainabilityforms a core research priority for SMU under its Vision 2025 research strategy. Sustainability is also a key focus for SOSS for our undergraduate program in Sustainable Societies as well as the Master of Sustainability (MST) launched in 2024. The new position will form a key part of the plans to consolidate the School of Social Science’s interdisciplinary contribution to research and teaching in sustainability.

Position:

The School of Social Sciences (SOSS) invites applications for an open rank (Assistant, Associate, Full Professor) tenure track position in Sustainability, with a specific focus on environmental policy and governance, sustainable development, or environmental sociology to begin in July of 2025. The School is particularly interested in environmental social scientists with an established research and teaching repertoire or high potential for scholarly work on topics related to sustainability, including collaborative governance, the water-energy-food nexus, natural resource management, climate institutions and partnerships, and sustainability governance and analytics. Those with a research focus involving Asia are especially encouraged to apply. Successful candidates will be expected to demonstrate a high level of social science research excellence, appropriate to the rank of position to which they are applying.

• Maintain cleanliness of the two labs and the equipment  Arrange for feeding of the fish in the aquaponics system (both indoor and outdoor), pond at eco-garden

The Services required are set out as follows:

a) Assist in the daily operations of the assigned science laboratories, science gardens, aquaponics, hydroponics and pond.

b) Responsible for the setup, clean up and general maintenance of the science laboratories and Science Areas.

c) Responsible for the cleanliness of the Recycling Corner.

d) Assist in preparation of laboratory apparatus, equipment and teaching materials for scheduled laboratory activities.
