Job Summary

The Director, Tax, Asia Pacific, is responsible for all tax compliance, planning and business support for all entities in the Asia Pacific region, and reports to AVP, International Tax under the U.S. Global Tax Team with a dotted line functional reporting to the Chief Finance Executive, Asia Pacific, Europe & Middle East (APEME).

Job Roles & Responsibilities

• Serve as the tax leader for all tax matters in the Asia Pacific region.
• Oversees local country tax compliance, tax audits and transfer pricing for all entities in the region including coordinating with the finance teams, external tax advisors, law department and US Finance and tax teams.
• Oversees local country tax provision for all entities in coordination with the local finance teams, external tax advisors and US tax team.
• Work with various process owners (eg: Marketing & Sales, Operations, Inventory Revenue Management, Development, Asset Management, Legal, Human Resources, etc.) to provide business support/advice and tax planning including but not limited for new product form, new business initiatives, M&A transactions and tax structuring.
• Overseeing and working with local Finance & Accounting (F&A) teams and external tax advisers on the various tax audits in the Asia Pacific region.
• Ensure technical development and training for the Finance team on relevant tax developments.
• Manage day to day relationship, budget and service levels from external tax advisors across the region.
• Manage internal controls SOX compliance and documentation requirements.

Job Requirements

• Qualified accountant (CTA, ACA, ACCA or equivalent). Accounting or Finance degree preferred.
• 8-10 years international tax experience in Big 4 or multinational corporation with advanced tax experience in the following:

o Tax planning, compliance and audits.

o Tax forecasting.

o Foreign tax credit and cash repatriation planning.

o US GAAP and IFRS accounting for income taxes.

o VAT, employment taxes and other non-income tax issues.

• Good exposure to taxation in Thailand, Indonesia, Hong Kong and Singapore.
• Experience with SOX compliance requirements.

The Global Compliance Management Services - Centre of Excellence (CoE) is seeking to fill a full-time role of senior tax PMO. The candidate should have tax background and experience on the asset management industry. Candidates for this position will be capable of understanding technology at an intermediate level and leading internal projects (Medium to large) from conception through to the successful delivery of the project. The role will work within the Global Tax Compliance and Transformation team at the direction of the GCMS CoE or their delegate based in Singapore. The role is designed to afford the right candidate with the opportunity to learn many facets of the Tax business and engage internally and externally with clients. The breath of the role will also require someone with the ability to easily adapt to the ever-changing tax environment and to be flexible in the work required by the role. KPMG’s Global Tax Compliance and Transformation team is specifically designed to help clients achieve cost-efficiencies and gain better process control and visibility. The team has been established to support the growth of KPMG’s tax compliance service offerings. The aim of the team is to drive the implementation of internal and external initiatives within the Global Tax Compliance and Tax Transformation arena and ensure high quality on-going services are provided to several our clients. As part of the transformation team, this role will support 5 main strategic goals:

1. The first goal will be to support the building / development of the internal operational processes. These internal projects will be critical to developing the foundation and the integrity of the services which can be delivered.
2. The second goal is to lead and implement the transition initiatives for new clients in various countries and regions. Intention is to ensure a consistent delivery model, which includes the preparation of standardized data packs, process maps, RACI, Local transition packs and all the activities necessary to conduct transition in an efficient manner. The candidate will be able to leverage the KPMG transition toolkit and methodology implemented by KPMG for these purposes.
3. To support with the PMO function by leading the coordination activity of compliance obligations of existing clients, supported by enabling technology and respective delivery centers.
4. Fourth, the role will be to serve as a liaison with other parts of Global Tax Compliance and Tax Transformation, most notably the technology team responsible for technology landscape
5. Finally, the role will be required to support business development activities to support the broader transformation team agenda and growth of Global Tax Compliance client base and targeting and Go-To-Market strategy.

As a senior manager/manager consultant level, the ability to effectively deliver the above services in a timely manner, of high quality, whilst keeping the broader team informed will be critical to your success. Strong communication both written and verbal are mandatory to the role. You will need to work collaboratively with other parts of the business and support the team as required in completing their tasks. To be successful you will need to have a ‘proactive’ approach to completing your work and supervising your peers’ work.

As such we are looking for professionals with previous experience (+7 years). Accounting and tax background in a plus. These professionals will have some specific goals around this competence, namely:

• Demonstrable project management or operational management experience
• The ability to engage across many levels of the client organisation and the ability to confidently interface across KPMG Global Tax Compliance network

Should possess skills to be able to understand the accounting/tax issues, implementation of technology solutions and other day to day issues. Tax acumen would be favorably considered.

• Lead and/or execute a diverse range of complex assignments as well as cross border transactions.
• Carry out tax due diligence, and advise on tax implications of mergers, acquisitions and restructurings.
• Address key corporate areas of tax advisory, tax planning and dispute resolution.
• Provide integrated due diligence with our Transaction Advisory Group and Private Equity Performance Improvement Group teams to the world’s largest and most high profile corporate, private equity and financial investors.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting preferred.
• 10 years of tax consulting experience – Big 4 experience preferred.
• Possess strong leadership, execution, and coaching skills.
• Ability to exceed client expectations and deliver high quality client service.
• Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
• Team player who can excel in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial, challenging work environment.
• Good writing, analytical, research and organizational skills.
