RESPONSIBILITIES

We are looking for the right person to supervise reporters covering Singapore issues. He/She will have a deep knowledge of Singapore issues and good contacts of experts in the relevant industries. The incumbent is able to direct reporters to bring out the most salient news points in a story. He/She is able to vet stories to ensure accuracy, objectivity and timeliness. Must be able to work under pressure.

Responsibilities :

• Review and decide what news events to cover
• Assigning appropriate stories to relevant reporters. Brief and debrief reporters before and after assignments to ensure salient news points and visuals are captured.
• Vet stories to ensure they are accurate and make the best use of the material, including video footage gathered
• Look out for possible follow-up stories that can be developed from diaried events
• Be on the look out for original, newsworthy content that reporters can pursue
• Participate in forward planning for important assignments/projects
• Develop and enhance professional competence by providing constructive feedback and guidance to reporters
• Adhere to the policies and rules set by regulators as well as editorial guidelines
• Keep updated on news and current affairs and other assigned segments by monitoring the market, competitors' content and viewers' feedback
• Liaise with other news gathering departments in the Mediacorp network to maximise the use of company resources
• Guide team to analyse information/data for greater depth in stories

Requirements:

• A dynamic individual with a good University Degree
• Excellent command of the English Language, both written and oral, and a good grasp of political issues
• At least 6 years of experience working in a newsroom, of which 2 years' were in a supervisory role
• Be prepared to work irregular hours, weekends and public holidays.

Position Overview:

This role involves the shooting, editing, and post-production of short-form videos, primarily for popular platforms like TikTok, Kuaishou, Bilibili, and Xiaohongshu. The position requires a mix of technical skills, creativity, and platform knowledge. The key responsibilities include shooting content using professional equipment, editing videos to meet platform-specific requirements, color grading, audio mixing, and implementing basic visual effects. In addition, the candidate should be familiar with current trends and able to produce content that resonates with the target audience while meeting tight deadlines.

Responsibilities:

1. Shooting Skills:

• Proficient in using various shooting equipment such as DSLRs, mirrorless cameras, and stabilizers.
• Familiarity with camera techniques, strong composition skills, and control of lighting.
• Ability to efficiently complete shooting tasks according to the style and requirements of the short video content.

2. Editing Skills:

• Mastery of editing software like Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro, and DaVinci Resolve.
• Basic audio editing, including adjusting background music and dialogue volumes.
• Familiarity with video formats, compression techniques, and output processes for different platforms.

3. Special Effects and Post-Production:

• Basic special effects knowledge and experience with After Effects or other visual effects software.
• Color grading skills to adjust the tone, contrast, and unify the video’s visual style.

4. Editing Mindset:

• Ability to tell a coherent and engaging story through editing, following the script or content requirements.

5. Creativity and Content Planning:

• Creative Planning: Ability to independently plan creative short videos, understanding current trends in short-form content.
• Platform Familiarity: Knowledge of platform algorithms and rules (TikTok, Kuaishou, Bilibili, Xiaohongshu) to create content that aligns with the platform’s tone and audience.
• Content Sensitivity: A keen sense of trending topics and the ability to quickly produce content relevant to current hot topics.

6. Soft Skills:

• Communication Skills: Ability to work closely with directors, planners, and designers, and understand creative needs to reflect them in the final product.
• Stress Management: Good time management and the ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines common in short video production.
• Learning Ability: Continually learning new shooting techniques, editing methods, and staying updated on platform algorithm changes.
• Responsibility and Initiative: High sense of responsibility for the quality of work, able to solve problems independently and ensure the final product meets expectations.

7. Bonus Points:

• Multi-Skilled Candidates: Candidates with skills in art, animation, photography, and post-production special effects are preferred.
• Personal Account or Successful Case: Running a successful personal account on short video platforms or having high-profile collaborations with well-known brands is a significant advantage.
• Diverse Content Expertise: Experience editing various types of content such as vlogs, advertisements, product reviews, or short story videos, and tailoring editing to fit each genre.
