Job Summary
Under the supervision and direction of the Trainee Principal, and following prescribed department, office and firm procedures, a Trainee Solicitor is responsible for meeting the practice and business needs of each firm-wide practice. A Trainee Solicitor is expected to perform all responsibilities with a commitment to providing superior service to the firm’s clients, lawyers, advisors and staff, and maintain an atmosphere of teamwork and continuous improvement. Above all, the Trainee Solicitor must fulfill the requirements of the Hong Kong Law Society and conduct themselves in a manner which is consistent with the Firm’s Core Values.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Duties are performed throughout every workday, as necessary):
The work of a Trainee Solicitor includes a variety of tasks. Trainees work with Partners and Associates to support them in their workload including drafting legal documents, researching legal or practice issues, proof-reading, making amendments to documents, liaising with clients and third parties by email and telephone, organising documents for closing deals and attending client meetings.
By the end of the secondment, the Trainee Solicitor will have exposure to an international Investment Funds practice and worked towards meeting the variety of Practice Skills Requirements required to be admitted as a Solicitor to the Law Society of Hong Kong.
Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
· Excellent written and spoken English, Mandarin and Cantonese Chinese language skills required. Other language skills desirable.
· Excellent written and oral communication skills, including strong writing and editing skills.
· Strong work ethic and service orientation.
· Commitment to professional growth and development.
· Superior ability to read, comprehend and follow instructions.
· Superior ability to prioritise and manage workload, work independently and as a member of teams, and complete tasks under time pressure as necessary.
· Poise, tact and professionalism when interacting with internal and external contacts.
· Strong IT skills including knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Educational Qualifications/Job Experience Requirements:
· Excellent and consistent academic achievement including minimum 2:1 in undergraduate degree and successful completion of the PCLL
· Minimum 6 months prior work experience within the Hong Kong office of an international law firm.
