Job Description

The Centre for Banking & Finance Law (CBFL) at the Faculty of Law, National University of Singapore, strives to be at the forefront of legal developments in banking and finance. Its mission is to contribute ideas for improving financial systems at the national, regional, and global levels. The Centre aims to foster a vibrant community that generates scholarship, policy recommendations, and intellectual exchanges focused on enhancing the robustness, soundness, and stability of the banking sector, capital markets, and other financial services.

The Centre invites applications from qualified candidates in the field of banking and finance law to undertake research and contribute to its activities. It welcomes research proposals across all areas of banking and finance law, including but not limited to: digitisation, artificial intelligence, cryptocurrencies, ESG, AML, payments, trade finance, credit and security, and financial consumer protection.

DUTIES

1. Develop and pursue a research agenda, including undertaking research projects on topics related to banking and/or finance law, with a view to publication in suitable journals, edited volumes, reputable blogs or other appropriate online media.
2. Present work-in-progress at CBFL research seminars with a view to refining it for publication.
3. Assist in other CBFL research projects and initiatives, as assigned by the CBFL leadership.
4. Attend and contribute to CBFL events.
5. Residence in Singapore throughout the term of appointment, subject to the standard NUS terms for annual and academic leave.

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS

The applicant must possess strong organisational skills, self-motivation, diligence, the ability to meet deadlines, and keen attention to detail. Excellent command of the English language, both written and oral, is essential, along with demonstrated ability to independently produce publishable research.

Research Assistant
An appointment as a Research Assistant may be offered to an applicant who has a Bachelor’s degree in law and/or who has recently graduated with an LLB (Hons) with a First-class or good Upper Second-Class Honours (or equivalent) in law.

Responsibilities

Strategy Development:

• Use AI technologies such as machine learning and deep learning to intelligently optimize investment strategies and improve the performance of strategies in actual transactions.
• Extract predictive signals from financial data through both traditional statistical analysis methods and cutting-edge machine learning techniques.
• Formulate and apply mathematical modeling techniques to enhance existing trading strategies and perform innovative new research with the goal of identifying and capturing trading opportunities.

Data Analysis：

• Collect and analyze large financial datasets (market data, news, social media, etc.).
• Work with large data sets to predict and test statistical market patterns, combining knowledge of systems, mathematical techniques, and trading to identify the best places to improve the trading system.
• Build and optimize feature engineering pipelines to improve model prediction accuracy.

Financial Modeling:

• Construct, back-test, maintain, and improve financial models to support trading activities.
