The Signature Research Programme in Neuroscience and Behavioural Disorders (NBD) is focused on understanding the structure and function of the nervous system, and the neural mechanisms underlying human neurological, psychiatric and ophthalmological disorders. NBD is one of the five Signature Research Programmes at Duke-NUS Medical School, focused on understanding the structure and function of the nervous system, and the neural mechanisms underlying human neurological, psychiatric and eye disorders.

The Translational Neuroscience Group led by Professor Vincenzo De Paola (https://www.duke-nus.edu.sg/nbd/the-team/faculty-members/details/Detail/de-paola-vincenzo) at Duke-NUS is looking for Research Assistant / Research Assistant (Senior).

The team aims to illuminate the mechanisms of human cortical circuit wiring and dysfunction. The ultimate aim is to use this knowledge to help design new treatment strategies for both neurodegenerative (e.g. dementia) and neuropsychiatric conditions (e.g. autism), and to enhance the brain regenerative potential.

The group uses a multidisciplinary approach at the interface between neuroscience (live imaging, neuroanatomy, electrophysiology, optogenetics, organotypic cultures), genetics (snRNAseq), human stem cell and tissue biology (human iPSC-derived neurons transplanted in the mouse brain) and high-resolution optical imaging (structural and functional multiphoton microscopy).

The selected candidate will perform a variety of research activities under the supervision of the Principal Investigator (PI), including but not limited to the following: -

• Provide laboratory operational assistance to the PI, i.e., day-to-day coordination and running of the laboratory including supervisory responsibilities for laboratory staff and students.
• Assist with general upkeep of laboratory needs, maintain safety protocols, provide technical support and establish work procedures to ongoing research projects.
• Perform tasks and support all aspects of the research project (microscopy, human cell cultures, molecular biology, brain tissue processing, etc.).
• Conduct accurate monitoring, documenting and reporting of experimental results and/or research findings.
• Assist researchers in programming, data analysis and literature review in various research projects.
• Perform any other duties that commensurate with the position.

The Role

Tanglin Trust School wishes to appoint a part-time (0.4) Junior Specialist Music Teacher to work in a thriving and dynamic department. The successful candidate will be an energetic, inspirational and committed teacher who is able to deliver a stimulating curriculum, as well as play a full and active role in the extensive co-curricular programme.

Applicants must have at least 2 years’ teaching experience, hold a degree in Music, and be proficient on at least one instrument. The ability to play the piano to a good standard would be an advantage, as would a working knowledge of Music Software (Sibelius, Garageband).

Key Responsibilities

Teaching & Learning

• Manage an effective, orderly and safe learning environment.
• Contribute as a team member to the planning of the annual and termly curriculum for each year group.
• Plan and deliver a curriculum for the class according to the agreed termly plan, differentiating that delivery according to the abilities and learning strategies of individual students.

Planning & Development

• Contribute to the planning and implementation of the co-curricular programme and other initiatives, as appropriate.

Assessment, Recording & Reporting

• Keep detailed records of plans, and of achievements of individual students; developing, in conjunction with the year group, standardised forms of assessment and record keeping.
• Report to parents in accordance with the school’s reporting policy as laid down in the Staff Handbook.

Communication & Liaison

• Liaise with relevant members of the Personalised Learning Team to ensure that all individual student needs are understood, planned for and met.
• Attend and contribute to meetings of a professional nature as and when required.
• Work with the Class Teacher in contributing to the strengthening of the parent-teacher partnership.

Pastoral & Co-Curriculum

• Follow the school’s policies and procedures with regard to discipline and behaviour, daily routines, duties, home learning, leave of absence, and visits, as laid down in the Staff Handbook.
• Lead and organise instrumential music ensembles and choir as required.
• Lead and organise music concerts and events, and support the work of the wider department.
• Embrace and lead on the school’s commitment to creating a diverse and inclusive environment.
• Be responsible for reporting any concerns about a child to the Designated Safeguarding Lead.

Key roles & Responsibilities

• Support Technical Superintendent in maintaining/updating HSSEQ management system
• Follow up on Class and Flag Status of each vessel and arrange for Surveys/ Services as required.
• Monitor and maintain ship certificates on electronic drive + Software databases (DANAOS).
• Follow up on repairs/services as arranged by the Superintendent in consultation with vessel purchaser.
• Assist with annual budget preparation and follow up from vessels.
• Assist with compilation of specifications and import quotation for dry docking.
• Assist with compilation of docking reports as provided by the Superintendent.
• On occasion follow up with purchasing requirements as arranged by the Superintendent – liaising with the Purchasing Department
• Provide remote assistance to the Superintendents as required – vessels do not have Internet access or when Superintendent is traveling.
• Assist the Superintendent with Management Reports.
• Filing of certificates, and Engine related weekly and monthly reports and documentation as received from the vessels/various other parties – moving to electronic filing and DANAOS.
• Update electronic filing on the Intranet to any changes within the organization or fleet.
• Send out certificates/documents to the vessel – write official letters/follow up on response from the vessel
• Arrange and follow up on Travel Requirements for the Technical Superintendents.
• Update and provide Class survey status as required by Marine / Technical Superintendent.
• Arrange and coordinate for storage and retrieval of ship document and Manuals from / to warehouse.
• Documentation control receipt, dispatch and disperse mails / invoices to the ship and within the fleet personnel.
• Assist fleet personnel and other administrative duties when called upon.
• Monitor and coordinate the LO and grease analysis reports for the fleet (Collection / Logistical arrangements /receipt and transmission of reports).
• Follow up on SOPEP/SMPEP and other Ship Specific Manuals (Class approval / Connecting to vessel)
• Attend Technical Department meetings, record minutes and distribute as required.

• Job Requirements:
• Diploma holder in related field/discipline
• Self-motivated individual with minimum 3 years experience in marine industries is a MUST
• Possess initiative and able to multi-tasks
• Resourceful with good negotiation skills
• Tech Savvy, adaptable to working with ERP

Education
