Full Time Faculty, Tenure Track Position (open rank) in Sustainability, School of Social Sciences (SOSS)
Established in 2007, the SMU School of Social Sciences (SOSS) provides high quality undergraduate and graduate education expanding SMUās pedagogical strategy to the study of society, government, and individuals embedded within an increasingly complex world. With faculty expertise and research spanning the disciplines of psychology, political science, sociology, and philosophy, SOSSās research covers key thematic areas such as international development, policy and politics, Southeast Asian studies, social movements, and sustainability. The School aspires to make a significant and lasting contribution across sectors through its integrative approach to the study of social issues.
Sustainabilityforms a core research priority for SMU under its Vision 2025 research strategy. Sustainability is also a key focus for SOSS for our undergraduate program in Sustainable Societies as well as the Master of Sustainability (MST) launched in 2024. The new position will form a key part of the plans to consolidate the School of Social Scienceās interdisciplinary contribution to research and teaching in sustainability.
Position:
The School of Social Sciences (SOSS) invites applications for an open rank (Assistant, Associate, Full Professor) tenure track position in Sustainability, with a specific focus on environmental policy and governance, sustainable development, or environmental sociology to begin in July of 2025. The School is particularly interested in environmental social scientists with an established research and teaching repertoire or high potential for scholarly work on topics related to sustainability, including collaborative governance, the water-energy-food nexus, natural resource management, climate institutions and partnerships, and sustainability governance and analytics. Those with a research focus involving Asia are especially encouraged to apply. Successful candidates will be expected to demonstrate a high level of social science research excellence, appropriate to the rank of position to which they are applying.
Singapore Management University is committed to an interdisciplinary and integrated curriculum, providing opportunities to work with faculty across the social sciences. The research support is excellent, and salary and benefits are highly competitive. The teaching load is relatively light and undergraduate classes are capped at no more than 45 students.
Experience:
Applicants must have -
Ā· A PhD. in public policy, sociology, or a closely related field.
Ā· A record of internationally excellent research at the intersection of environmental sustainability, society, and policy.
Ā· Teaching experience related to sustainability data perspectives, environment and society, infrastructure for sustainable development or environmental policy and governance.
Ā· [Associate/Full Professor Level ONLY] Experience with applying for competitive research grants.
Ā· [Associate/Full Professor Level ONLY] Experience with public engagement on sustainability topics.
