Research Associate/Assistant (Urban Environmental Sustainability)

The Research Assistant will be expected to engage in projects around 5G Digital Telecommunication Platform for Cyber Exercises under the Future Communications R&D Programme (FCP) Office in SUTD. We are seeking a highly motivated research assistant with a strong mathematical background who is interested to explore new research directions in neuro-symbolic methods, specifically on the interplay between deep learning and symbolic reasoning. The successful candidate can expect to help with the implementation of algebraic machine reasoning frameworks and will work closely with other team members.

The goal of this project is to develop a general neuro-symbolic reasoning framework for solving various reasoning tasks. The symbolic reasoning part of this framework shall be based on algebraic machine reasoning, a new reasoning paradigm built upon commutative algebra and computational algebra. The non-symbolic part of the framework shall primarily be based on deep learning, and could include vision models, language models, and multi-modal models.

Duties include teaching of undergraduate and continuous education courses, advising undergraduate student projects, conducting pedagogical research, creating innovative curriculum, student outreach, and service to SUTD and the community. We are particularly interested in individuals with a strong and genuine interest in promoting STEM education at levels.

The minimal qualifications for the faculty position include:

1. An earned doctorate in Applied Mathematics, Physics, Bioinformatics or related engineering fields,
2. A strong passion and high competence in teaching applied mathematics, physics, modeling/simulation and related courses at the undergraduate levels,
3. Excellent communication skills,
4. Prior teaching experience including experience in technology-enabled learning, is preferred,
5. Prior experience in pedagogy research is preferred,
6. A demonstrated record of, or potential, for teaching to industry partners, and
7. A demonstrated record of, or potential, for scholarly research.

Job Description:

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Postdoctoral Researcher to join our team and contribute to an exciting project focused on understanding individual decisions regarding car ownership and transportation mode choice. The successful candidate will utilize advanced machine learning techniques to analyze real-world data and develop models that elucidate the factors influencing these decisions. This research aims to provide valuable insights for policymakers, urban planners, and transportation authorities to design more efficient and sustainable transportation systems.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Conduct in-depth literaturereviews to understand existing theories and methodologies related to transportation mode choice and car ownership decisions.
2. Collect, preprocess, and analyze large-scale datasets containing information on individual travel behavior, demographic characteristics, urban infrastructure, and environmental factors.
