The National University of Singapore (NUS) invites applications for the role of Research Assistant with the Heat Resilience & Performance Centre (HRPC), Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. The HRPC is a first-of-its-kind research centre, established at the NUS, to spearhead and conduct research and development to better enable the future challenges arising from rising ambient heat. Appointments will be made on a two-year contract basis, with the possibility of extension.

The Research Assistant who will play a key role in assisting in the development, execution and analysis of research aimed at addressing the challenges of training and operating in rising ambient temperatures. The successful candidate will be part of a multi-disciplinary group comprising exercise and thermal physiologists, data scientists, biomedical engineers and researchers. This role will provide you with a unique opportunity to not only develop your expertise in research planning and execution, but also to be a part of the team looking to generate fundamental and forward-looking solutions to working in the heat.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The main areas of responsibilities of the role will include but limited to the following:

• Working with research PIs and teams to develop new research ideas
• Performing literature searches, assimilating, and summarizing key information, as well as identifying knowledge gaps

Qualifications

A minimum qualification of a Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Physiology, or equivalent. Experience in statistics, data analysis and visualisation software (e.g. SPSS, Power BI), and computer applications (e.g. Microsoft Office, data management and online meeting tools) would be required as well.

Purpose of the post

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The individual will be responsible for the following tasks:

• Develop new models and methodologies to account for the environmental impacts of health systems. • Assist in evaluating the environmental impact of healthcare products and clinical pathways using a range of approaches including carbon footprints and broader life cycle assessment.
• Assist in the data retrieval and critical appraisal of secondary data sources that evaluate the environmental impact of healthcare products and clinical pathways
• Engage in a variety of research-related activities including literature searches and reviewing, preparation of research materials, data collection, entry, analysis, and interpretation using in accordance with the highest research standards.
• Perform research operations and administration duties such as the preparation of grant, ethics review applications, manuscripts, reports, and other relevant documentation of study-related matters.
• Perform other administrative and basic project management support to the research projects, as assigned by the Director/Principal Investigator.
• Function as an effective, dynamic team player as part of the wider CoSM team.

Appointments will be made on a 12-month contract basis with the possibility of extension.

Qualifications

The applicant must:

1. Hold a bachelor’s degree in disciplines related to any of the following:A highly numerate subject (engineering, mathematics, physics, statistics, econometrics, computer science, operational research, or similar).
   Environmental and climate sciences.
   Public health and health services research.
   Demonstrate a keen interest in sustainability, energy systems, climate change, and/or health services and public health.

Our projects are primarily focused on exploring the role of neuroimaging in the clinic, facilitated by quantitative analysis including machine learning, with a focus on neurodegenerative diseases (e.g. Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease), with a small focus on brain tumor imaging. The title of the current major project is <Development of a data-driven imaging biomarker for Alzheimer's disease>. The main objective of our ongoing research is to develop and validate data-driven imaging biomarkers to predict the prognosis of Alzheimer's disease dementia in elderly individuals by harmonizing established Alzheimer's disease research datasets and retrospective local institutional datasets.

The primary responsibilities of the Research Assistant will revolve around data management and administrative tasks, as described below:

Key Responsibilities

Database management and basic analysis:

- Download and integrate imaging and other non-imaging data into our research database.

- Perform basic neuroimaging processing and analysis using our existing R / Python pipeline. The role could extend to pipeline customization if the RA shows an interest and aptitude for image analysis work.

- The role could extend to basic statistical analysis and machine learning tasks using pre-built code, under the guidance of the PI and AI expert research staff, if the RA shows interest and aptitude for the above tasks.

Job Description:
