Job Description

The candidate will be responsible for the following:

• Managing Client relationships

• Managing 4 to 5 design projects concurrently in Yards (including China)

• Providing overall leadership for the project while maintaining a focus on achieving targets efficiently

• Development and presentation of project plans, respond to Clients

• Liaison with the Shipyard, Classification society, Vendors & Clients

• Weekly progress reporting to Client & Management

Desired Profile

Essential requirements for this position are:

· Technical/ marketing skills for shipbuilding industry

· Experience in project management

· Excellent organizational and planning skills

· Strong Leadership and bilingual communication skills in English/ Mandarin

The candidate should have minimum 5 years’ experience in related role in ship design/ shipbuilding industry. Promising candidates with less experience may be considered as Trainees.

Ø organize and manage the electrical department as necessary, from receiving tenders to completing final accounts.

Ø To ensure sub-contractors are supervised and their standard of work is acceptable and in compliance with recognized safety practices and specifications

Ø To control and effectively manage department operations through regular site visits as necessary, to assess progress, safety, and quality, and to give instruction and advice

Ø To liaise with departmental staff, clients, contractors, and suppliers in matters relating to work

Ø To attend meetings, training workshops, and other work-related issues, as required, which may involve working outside normal hours

Ø To liaise with specialists and consultants to obtain assistance and advice

Ø To supervise staff including allocation and control of work

Ø To prepare method statements in conjunction with the Safety officer

Ø To liaise with the Safety Officer in arranging safety inspections

Ø To check and authorize orders and invoices, ensuring correct procedures are followed

Ø To liaise with Human Resources in matters relating to development and training courses for electrical staff

Ø To attend management meetings as required

Ø To undertake specific projects and prepare reports for the Technical Director as required

Ø To adhere to existing working practices, methods, and procedures, undertake relevant training and development activities, and respond positively to new and alternative systems

Ø Undertake any additional duties as and when required by the line manager/business

In addition to the above, all supervisors and managers have a duty of care to ensure that a safe place of work is maintained and that appropriate welfare facilities are provided. Workers must be briefed on the hazards likely to be presented, with the knowledge that the risks have been calculated, and must be informed of the controls required to mitigate those risks.

Minimum Qualification:

Ø BE or B-Tech in Electrical Engineering

Ø Proficient in the use of MS Word, excel, outlook, and other electrical software

Minimum Experience:

Ø Proven working experience as an Electrical Engineer

Ø Excellent knowledge and understanding of both marine and land-based electrical systems, procedures, and legislation

Ø Ability to ensure that labor, materials, plant, and equipment are used effectively and efficiently

Ø Ability to organize and direct electrical and associated staff, determining priorities to maximize the use of resources in achieving prescribed objectives

Qualification & Requirements

- Degree in Mechatronic or equivalent

- Min 5 years working experience in Marine Industry or shipyard environment.

- Good understanding of deck machinery such as winch, crane, lifting and handling equipment and the related IACS (particular ABS, DNV, BV) rules and regulations.

- Added advantage with specific experience in WTW system (Offshore Passenger Transfer System).

- Strong understanding of mechanical principles, hydraulic and electrical system and P&ID with ability to perform trouble shooting.

- Strong leadership with problem-solving skills. Added advantage with understanding in structural design.

- Teamwork: Ability to work effectively with all team members at all levels.

- Communication: Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in both Mandarin and English with team members, vendors, fabricator and clients.

- Ability to produce written report and presentation in English. Added advantage if such report and presentation can be in Mandarin.

- Software – able to use MS Office, MS Powerpoint, MS Project, Adobe and AUTOCAD. Ability to use Primavera scheduling software an added advantage.

- Good understanding of Document Control. Added advantage with knowledge of ISO9001:2015 QAM system

- The candidate must be willing to travel and work in marine and offshore environment.

Key Responsibilities

- Report to the Project Director / Manager in Charged of the WTW system.

- Project Support: Provide technical expertise to oversee the design, development and construction of the WTW system.

- Interface with WTW system designer, vendors, fabricators including drawings reviews, sourcing equipment, cost control and monitoring, schedule monitoring and update.

- Project Execution: Oversee project implementation according to the requirements and objectives. This includes schedule monitoring, vendors sourcing and recommendation, purchase/ cost evaluation, resources allocation, attend to inquiries, clarifying technical details, supervising project execution, implementing corrective actions, conducting Factory Acceptance Tests, and finalizing as-built documentation.

- Troubleshooting and Repair: Diagnose and resolve malfunctions in deck machinery using technical manuals, hand tools, and power tools.

- Record Keeping: Meticulously maintain records of all changes, maintenance, repairs, and inspections.

Develop operating, maintenance and safety procedures for the WTW system.

Job Responsibilities

• Report and assist Project Manager (PM) on project functions included but not limited to project management, site management, risk control management etc. to meet the project(s) goals.
• Assist Project Manager in project planning, implementation and to coordinate all construction works on the project site are in accordance to the master and detailed work program.
• Prepare, plan and submit project related documents, such as schedules, method statement, design plan, risk assessment, monthly report, etc.
• Manage day to day project activities including scheduling, coordinating and monitoring and reporting update of projects
• To supervise the execution of the works and ensure that the works are carried out in accordance with contract specification/bills of quantities, construction drawings, company’s quality standards, Environmental, Safety & Health (ESH) practices and all other contract document
• To coordinate and liaise with Client’s representatives, relevant Authorities, Consultant, Subcontractors, Suppliers, etc. on all project aspects and need be, to provide all technical and non-technical resolutions followed by documentation.
• Liaise with client or consultant for site inspections, submission of necessary technical reports and ensure necessary records are maintained at site. Assist in verifying progress payments and claims from Contractors.
• Attend regular meetings with Client’s Representative, Consultants and/or Contractors and ensure the progress is on schedule
• Establish proper and effective document control system, maintain & conduct reviews of detail design drawings, project documents and specifications.
• Be responsible for any other duties that may be assigned from time to time as your superior/management deem fit.
• Be the primary focal point between various parties

Qualifications & Experience

• Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering/Electronics/Control Systems Engineering or related disciplines

Preferred Skills & Characteristics

• Self-starter and ability to self-manage strong interpersonal and leadership skills
• Demonstrated oral and written communication skills
• Must have high level of integrity, able to generate trust and build alliances with co-workers
• Able to communicate effectively & diversely for prompt resolution to site matters
• Able to work independently, take initiative and willing to work overtime/weekends (when needed)
• Ability to foresee and resolve issues before surfacing would be an added advantage
• Familiar with Job Safety Analysis, Work Method Statement and Permit to Work application requirements and procedures
• Ability to maintain good project documentation and is familiar with ISO documentation requirements
• Safety certifications such as Working at Height, Construction Safety Orientation Course etc. preferred
• Mandarin speaking preferred as will be liaising with overseas vendors
• Basic knowledge on Industrial Control Real Time Systems such as PLC/SCADA/IoT
• Basic programming skills in VB, C, C++, Java, C# etc is advantageous
• Additional skills in AutoCAD, Revit and Microsoft Office are advantageous
