The Department of Architecture invites applications for up to two Tenure Track positions in Urban Planning and Design.

The Department of Architecture in the College of Design and Engineering is ranked among the top 10 in the world, and Asia’s best in Architecture/Built Environment, by the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings (2023). It offers the professionally accredited Master of Architecture programme as well as a range of graduate and undergraduate programmes in related fields such as landscape architecture, integrated sustainable design and architectural conservation. Qualifications

The Department of Architecture at the National University of Singapore invites applications for up to two Tenure track (Professor/Associate Professor/Assistant Professor) position in urban planning and design. Successful candidates should be actively engaged with urban issues in Asia. They should have interests in developing interdisciplinary research to address pressing challenges to high-density urban environment, especially in Asia. They are strongly encouraged to develop collaborative research in the context of the newly established College of Design and Engineering as well as with industry partners and government agencies within and beyond Singapore.

Successful candidates should also have interests and experience in running urban design and/or planning studios in an interdisciplinary setting. We are especially interested in applicants who are able to deploy the studio as a testbed for questions related to pressing challenges to high-density tropical cities. Successful candidates are also expected to teach core modules related to urban planning and design, physical planning, environmental management, urban economics, and urban infrastructure.

The candidate should possess a Ph.D. degree in Urban Planning and Design or related fields as well as requisite experience and credentials suitable for full-time appointment in NUS. They should (i) demonstrate a proven track record in, or strong potential for, research; (ii) have the ability to teach both studio and core modules of urban planning and design at undergraduate and postgraduate levels; and (iii) for the position of professor and associate professor, have strong academic credentials, extensive experience and strong competence in academic leadership and management. Salary will commensurate with qualifications and experience.

• To be responsible for the smooth completion of the assigned project, in terms of both documentations and operational aspects;
• To attend site meetings with the Main-Contractor whenever necessary with regards to any site issues, and to update to the Directors;
• To plan and make sure site work progress follows the Schedule;
• To work closely with office staff to prepare monthly Progress Claims, Payment Certificates, or the like;
• To ensure the works are executed in accordance with approved plans/drawings and in accordance with contract specifications;
• To assist and review the teams for their monthly performance;
• To prepare Method of Statement as and when necessary, for specific works;
• To assist and account for all materials & equipment delivered to site;
• To prepare and assist worker Organizational Chart for both the Company’s workers and Supply Worker alike;
• To assist workers’ time schedule. Must make sure workers, especially supply workers, do not work unnecessary overtime. Any overtime works must be first approved by the Managing Director before commencement;
• To prepare and assist the site tools sign-in/out list;
• Any other ad hoc duties assigned by the Managing Director.

Requirements

• Min Degree or Diploma in M&E, Construction Management or equivalent related field.
• Min 1 year relevant work experience
• Possess good communication skill and leadership quality to manage project team and stakeholders.

Procure materials, labor, and services, ensuring quality and adherence to the project timeline.
Ensure the availability and proper allocation of resources (staff, equipment, materials).

· Risk Management:Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies.
Address unexpected delays or issues that may arise during the construction process.
Ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards.

· Team Leadership:Lead and motivate construction teams, ensuring tasks are completed as scheduled.
Collaborate with project stakeholders, clients, and other parties involved.
Communicate regularly with clients and provide project updates.

· Quality Control:Oversee the quality of work throughout the construction process.
Conduct inspections to ensure the project meets design specifications and standards.
Ensure the use of appropriate construction techniques and materials.

· Documentation and Reporting:Maintain project records, including contracts, change orders, and progress reports.
Provide regular updates on project status to stakeholders and upper management.
Prepare project closure documentation, including final reports and as-built drawings.

• Perform duties as the role of Project Manager under WSH Act
• Management of all demolition sites as allocated by the Company
