Duties and Responsibilities

• Report to the Head Chef or Sous Chef
• To ensure consistent and smooth running of food production; Prepare ingredients based on the instruction from the Head Chef or Sous Chef
• Direct and co-ordinate all food preparation and production activities in the kitchen
• Comply and ensure all the existing hygiene policies are strictly adhered daily; ensure working areas are always clean
• Ensure proper arrangement and garnishing of food
• To ensure provide good quality food products for the guests and provide excellent services in achieving customers’ satisfaction
• Customer oriented and work comfortably in front of customers, create an exciting and quality experience at the Omakase table
• Handling customers’ feedback. Investigate and resolve customer’s complaint in a prompt, courteous and professional manner with proper documentation and resolutions

Requirements

• At least 3 years working experience, will be good to have Japanese culinary experience
• Excellent time management and attention to details
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-moving environment with a proven track record of results
• knowledgeable in food preparation ; Ability to be creative, always willing to try something new

1. Preparation of Ingredients

• Washing and chopping: Cooks are responsible for washing and chopping vegetables, butchering meat, and preparing other ingredients before cooking.
• Measuring and mixing: They measure and mix ingredients according to recipes or their own judgment, creating the base for dishes.

2. Cooking and Presentation

• Cooking: This includes boiling, grilling, frying, sautéing, and baking various dishes. Cooks must understand how different cooking methods affect ingredients to achieve the desired outcome.
• Presentation: The arrangement of food on the plate is also a part of their job. Good presentation enhances the dining experience and makes the food more appealing.

3. Recipe Development and Menu Planning

• Creativity: Cooks often contribute to the creation of new recipes and the planning of menus, considering factors like seasonal availability of ingredients and current culinary trends.
• Costing: They may also be involved in costing dishes to ensure they meet budgetary constraints while maintaining quality.

4. Kitchen Safety and Cleanliness

• Maintaining cleanliness: Ensuring the kitchen area and equipment are clean and sanitized to meet health and safety standards.
• Handling food safely: Proper storage and handling of ingredients to prevent foodborne illnesses and cross-contamination.

5. Time Management and Efficiency

• Multi-tasking: Cooks often work on multiple dishes simultaneously, requiring good time management to ensure everything is cooked and served in a timely manner.
• Speed and efficiency: The ability to work quickly and efficiently under pressure, especially during peak dining hours.

6. Teamwork and Communication

• Collaboration: Working as part of a team, including with other cooks, kitchen assistants, dishwashers, and front-of-house staff.
• Communication: Clear communication is essential for coordinating with team members and ensuring that orders are prepared correctly and on time.

7. Adaptability and Learning

• Learning new techniques: The culinary field is constantly evolving, so cooks need to be willing to learn new cooking techniques and cuisines.
• Adaptability: The ability to adapt to changes, whether it's modifying a dish to accommodate a dietary restriction or coping with a sudden rush of customers.

Job Responsibilities

• General cleaning and maintain cleanliness to the whole premise including classrooms, office, dining area and kitchen.
• Preparation of meals for breakfast, tea break and lunch based on the provided menu.
• Serving of food to children.
• Any ad-hoc cooking or cleaning duties as assigned by Centre Manager/Principal.
• Work environment: preschool.

Working Hours

• 44 hours a week / Alternate Saturdays

We are hiring a reliable kitchen assistant to assist the cook with ingredient preparation and perform all washing and cleaning duties required in the kitchen.

As a kitchen assistant, you should exercise exceptional time management, ensure that all duties are completed on time and comply with all food health and safety regulations.

Responsibilities:

• Cleaning and sanitizing all food preparation areas according to established standards of hygiene.
• Washing and storing all cooking appliances, instruments, utensils, cutting boards, and dishes.
• Assisting the Cook with the preparation of meal ingredients, such as washing, cleaning, peeling, cutting, and chopping fruit, vegetables, poultry, and meat.
• Sweeping and mopping the kitchen floors and wiping down kitchen walls.

Requirements:

• Experience assisting in kitchens.
• Food handler's license.
• Knowledge of food health and safety regulations.
• The ability to stand for extended periods.
• The ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• The ability to work in a team.

• Able to work split-shifts, Saturdays and public holidays (if required)

Your day to day

• Work closely with head pastry chef for the daily productions, preparation and presentation of menu items
• Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of your work stations and maintenance of equipments
• Able to work on given tasks independently with precision and high quality
• Able to work in an efficient and timely manner
• Establish and maintain effective employee working relationships
• Monitor, check and receive ingredient stock

What we need from you

• 1 year related experience in a cake shop of similar capacity will be good but not necessary as training and guidance will be provided
• Valid Food Safety Level 1 certification as required by Singapore Food Agency (SFA)
