Overview and Objective of the Position

The Marketing Officer will work collaboratively with the Marketing and Admissions team in the execution and evaluation of marketing strategies that contribute to growth of domestic student enrolments at Curtin Singapore.

Who are we looking for?

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Air Quality Modeller to join HD4. Working collaboratively with a team of population health scientists, geospatial scientists, and data engineers the post holder will lead on building various emission inventories and air quality models for Singapore which incorporate the various air pollution sources in the country and allow for linkage with the geolocations of participants of the Singapore 100K cohort (SG100K), including some geo-located behavioural data. The models will also be set-up and used subsequent scenario modelling to estimate the impact of interventions on air quality and health and disentangle the various sources through source apportionment. This role requires a multi-skilled individual that can work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Collaboration: Work closely with researchers to understand the data needs of the programme and contribute to the design of scientifically robust and policy relevant models linking emission inventories to air quality models and spatially and temporally assigning exposures for human participants in subsequent epidemiological analyses and health impact assessments.
• Data, identification, production, and assembly: Collaborate with team and external scientists, national and local organizations, and conduct independent literature reviews to produce and synthesise the required data sources with high temporal and spatial resolution and to link data across various sources.
• Data verification validation: Identify and use various primary collected data and published secondary data from peer-reviewed and grey literature to verify and validate produced emission and air quality model outputs. Ensure model robustness through cross-checking, calibration, and validation through multiple iterations.
• Model building: Build operational and validated air quality models and link their outputs to human participants in static (e.g. at home address) and dynamic exposure (assigning exposures to other locations outside the residential address only e.g. while travelling) assignment for diverse population groups.
• Support: Provide technical support and training to researchers.
• Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for model development, verification, and validation. Support project reporting and paper writing and submission to peer-reviewed journals.

Who are we looking for?

We are seeking highly motivated combustion researchers to work in the following areas:

1) Kinetics: (i) Experiments with flow reactors and laminar flames. The successful applicant will be skilled in analytical combustion chemistry systems such as gas chromatography and laser detection; (ii) Development of detailed and reduced chemical mechanisms. Experience in combustion chemistry modelling is needed.

2) Laminar and turbulent flame fundamentals: (i) Experiments with laminar pulsed and turbulent swirl flames. Skills in flame rig design, laser diagnostics and optical methods for flames are needed. (ii) Modelling with combustion Computational Fluid Dynamics (DNS, LES), with experience in the fundamentals of turbulent combustion, CFD and massively-parallel computations.

3) High-pressure combustion: Experiments and simulations for reciprocating engines and gas turbines. For the experimental positions, the successful candidate must be skilled in optical diagnostics, engine combustion, swirl combustion, fluids handling and data analysis. For the modelling positions, experience in CFD of engines or gas turbine combustors is a prerequisite.

4) Detonations and ignition risk analysis with CFD. The position involves high-order CFD methods for capturing detonations and turbulent flow analysis for ignition. The successful candidate must be experienced with CFD.

Working collaboratively with a team of population health scientists, geospatial scientists, and data engineers, the post holder will lead on building an agent-based simulation model for Singapore. The broad aim of the project is to develop novel approaches and technologies for fully de-fossilised routes to complex functional molecules and molecular materials. The project will explore novel chemical transformations for conversion of net-zero feedstocks to building blocks typically used in pharma, agrochem and other end applications. The project will also explore novel synthetic methods for conversion of the building blocks into end-use functional molecules. Novel synthesis technologies (photoelectrochemistry, sonochemistry, mechanochemistry, etc), as well as advanced research methods (AI, chemoinformatics, high-throughput synthesis) and process metrics (LCA and technoeconomic analysis) are included in this large project.

Who are we looking for?

The Gaunt group are looking for passionate and creative scientist to join our team as postdoctoral researchers in synthetic chemistry based in Cambridge Centre for Advanced Research and Education in Singapore, and closely integrated with the Gaunt group @ the University of Cambridge. The successful candidate will join the dynamic and collaborative research group of Professor Matthew Gaunt, working at the forefront of cutting-edge synthetic methodologies and their applications (https://www.thegauntgroup.com/).

The synthetic chemist at CARES will be supervised by Prof. Gaunt and will join a “Synthesis Team” of the larger SM3 project, which will involve close collaboration with Profs. Ming Joo KOH (NUS) and Shunsuke CHIBA (NTU). The “Synthesis Team” will be supported by the “AI team”, co-led by Profs. Philippe Schwaller (EPFL), Alexei Lapkin and Markus Kraft (Cambridge/CARES).

Position Overview: As a postdoctoral researcher, you will be involved in designing and developing catalytic activation modes that lead to new synthetic transformations. Synthetic chemists are uniquely placed to leverage catalytic systems to design reactions that control structure and function at a molecular level in all types of bioactive complex molecules. We are looking for experts in synthetic chemistry who are interested in taking on new challenges and exploiting their experience to explore new areas of catalyst-controlled reactivity that lead to an expansion of accessible chemical space.

The candidate would have experience in assessing engineering reports and scientific papers on novel synthesis technologies, extracting key process performance parameters. The successful candidate would also have experience in designing and performing simple experimental work in the broad area of process and reaction engineering.

What skills do you have?

Working with chemical process simulators (e.g. Aspen Plus). Coding in Python or C++. Hands-on experimental experience in building and operating chemical reactors on laboratory scale.
