The Centre for Quantum Technologies (CQT), National University of Singapore is looking for researchers and engineers to develop next generation quantum computers based on trapped ions. Project Title: Feasibility Study on Laser Induced Plasma-Guided Electrical Discharges

Project Introduction:

The aim of the project is to study and evaluate several types of conditions and design parameters of different plasma and laser devices that would allow: (1) generation of laser-induced plasma channel under atmospheric pressure, (2) propagation and maintaining of electrical stream/pulses on the plasma channel, (3) evaluate effects of laser-induced plasma with material interaction. Experimental and simulation studies will be caried out using various setups and software tools to determine the feasibility of generating these laser-induced plasma channel for applications requiring electrical discharge, electrical transport, and spectroscopy.

Requirements:

• BSc in Physics, Engineering Science, or Electrical Engineering.
• Preferably minimum 1 year working or research experience.
• Preferably with experience in experimental lab or computational applications.
• Preferable knowledge of Unix or Linux concepts, the Unix shell, and terminal commands to interact with Unix computer environments.
• Preferably possess or previously holds a NEA N3 laser license.

Responsibilities:

• Work on development of laser induced plasma channel and other plasma/laser setups.
• Assist in all aspects of experiments including carrying out experiments, data analysis, and experimental setup.
