The Second Engineer reports to the Chief
Engineer and supervises routine and
scheduled operation and maintenance
work in the engine department, or other
location as required.
The Second Engineer duties and
responsibilities include:
- In charge of engine room in the absence
of Chief Engineer.
- Responsible to the Chief Engineer for the
efficient operation, maintenance and
repair of main machinery and all items of
auxiliary machinery and brought to the
attention of the Chief Engineer
immediately for any defects in equipment.
- The Second Engineer is to familiarize
himself and his subordinates in Engine
Room with the Company’s policies and
Shipboard Operating Procedures Manuals
and conversant with the methods of use of
all safety equipment and emergency
procedures.
- Responsible for advising the Chief
Engineer of spare part requirements and
ensuring efficient state of
preservation/stowed with documentation.
- The Second Engineer shall be responsible
to the Chief Engineer and shall undertake
duties as allocated by him as below.
• Keeping & maintaining engine-room
watch as required.
• Assists in the upkeep & recording of the
Inspection & Testing log.
• Assists in the preparation of docking /
repair list.
• Assists in monitoring & controlling the
usage of bunkers, lubes, stores, spares,
etc.
• Maintenance of lifesaving & fire-fightingequipment in engine room.
• Maintains the engine room in a safe &clean environment.
Requirements:
- COC Class II or I
- Minimum 3 years of experience on board
as Second Engineer on Oil / Chemical vessel.
- Good leadership, teamwork,
management and communication skills
- Must be willing to follow Company
planned working schedule on board vessel
