Assistant Professor of English: Creative Writing

The School of Humanities invites suitable candidates to apply for a faculty position in Creative Writing at the rank of Assistant Professor. The area of specialization and competence is Creative Writing: Poetry. Candidates must have a considerable track record of poetry publications, while an interest in the digital humanities and/or artificial intelligence may be of benefit.

The successful applicant will teach courses in Creative Writing, supervise graduate theses, and contribute to the ongoing development of Creative Writing as an important academic discipline in the school. The English department at SoH offers an undergraduate minor in Creative Writing, as well as postgraduate creative/critical degrees by research (MA and PhD), and elective courses in Publishing.

Requirements

Candidates who have the following qualifications are encouraged to apply:

• PhD or equivalent professional qualification in Creative Writing, English, or a related field
• Teaching specialism in creative writing at undergraduate and/or graduate level
• International profile as a published poet
• An active creative writing publishing agenda

Remuneration

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Position: Remote Bilingual Audio Interpreter (English & Mandarin)
Contract Duration: 3 months (highly renewable based on performance and business needs)
Location: Fully Work-from-Home (within Singapore region)
Working Days: 5 days per week (Monday to Sunday, on a roster)
Working Hours: 8-hour shifts between 9pm to 9am (based on roster)

What You’ll Do:

As a Bilingual Audio Interpreter, you will play a vital role in bridging communication between English and Mandarin speakers, ensuring accurate and sensitive translations in real-time.

• Provide fluent interpretation in English and Mandarin for stakeholders in the US and China.
• Maintain neutrality and professionalism during conversations, even in sensitive situations like emergency calls, medical discussions, and culturally sensitive topics.
• Exhibit excellent listening, retention, and note-taking skills to ensure precise interpretations.
• Render strict and accurate interpretations without omissions or additions, adhering to established protocols.
• Use clear pronunciation and polite expressions in both languages.
• Assist in explaining cultural concepts to avoid miscommunication, as requested by the client.

What You Need to Succeed:

• Fluent in English and Mandarin (spoken and written).
• Ability to remain calm and composed during high-pressure or sensitive calls.
• Strong note-taking and active listening skills.
