The successful candidate will have opportunities to participate in research and industry projects in additive manufacturing (AM) and be involved in a highly challenging and dynamic research and development environment by working with scientists and engineers. The lab officer’s responsibilities include sample preparation, characterization, measurement, and mechanical testing. The lab officer also supports group’s research activities through procurement, equipment maintenance, risks assessments, including:

• Hand-on work such as preparing, operating and unpacking AM printers.
• Perform material testing, sample preparation, dimensional measurements, surface quality inspection, microstructure & defects analysis.
• Tracking and managing lab and group’s resource utilization, procurement, and delivery.
• Storage space management and optimization.
• Ensure high operational readiness by liaising with vendors to troubleshooting breakdowns preventive maintenance, and repairs.
• Facilitating mechanical and electrical installations for new equipment.
• Assist in lab equipment operation, collection of process data and analysis of results.
• Secondary roles related to health, safety, environment, and procurement to manage the Risk Assessment (RA), Standard Working Procedures (SWP), Permit to Work (PTW), and chemical purchasing and storage.
• Identify and recommend improvement measurements to ensuring high quality in lab safety and 5S standards.

Job Requirements

• Polytechnic / Technical Diploma degree in Engineering.
• Strong hands-on capabilities.

• Open attitude to lifelong learning and adapts well to new technologies.
• In-depth knowledge / hands-on experience in design for additive manufacturing (DfAM), CAD-based modelling, fusion or sinter-based additive manufacturing processing & metallurgy will be an added advantage.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare and organize laboratory materials, reagents, and samples for experiments.
• Assist in the setup and operation of lab equipment such as precision milling machine, laser cutting machine and 3D printing machine.
• Set up and calibrate laboratory equipment and instruments.
• Conduct routine maintenance and cleaning of laboratory equipment.
• Monitor inventory levels of laboratory supplies and place orders for replenishment when necessary.
• Assist scientists and engineers in research projects and training courses, contributing to experiments and investigations.
• Collect, record, and analyse experimental data using laboratory techniques and instrumentation.
• Prepare and maintain detailed records of experimental procedures, observations, and results.

Qualifications and Skills:

• Certificate or diploma relevant to Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC)
• Previous experience working in a laboratory setting, preferably in a research or academic environment.
• Familiarity with laboratory equipment and instrumentation such as milling machine and microscopes.

- Handle incoming requisitions, quotations, POs, and make records

- Prepare and submit quotations

- Negotiate with suppliers to for the prices and terms are obtained.

- Liaise with vessels, vendors, forwarders, and agents for delivery

- Any other Ad Hoc assigned

Requirements:

*Diploma or Degree in related discipline

*At least 2-3 years procurement experience in marine line

*An independent individual who works well under pressure

*Knowledge in Contract T&Cs

*Good command of written & spoken English and Mandarin

*Proficiency in computer skills, eg, MS Office, ERP system

*Immediate availability is preferred
