This is a Senior Management role that involves overseeing and managing the operations of marine zoological facilities and ensuring the well-being of marine animals and the smooth functioning of the facility as a whole.
Responsibilities:
· Ensure the health, welfare, and proper care of marine animals by developing and implementing animal care protocols, monitoring animal behavior and health, and coordinating veterinary care.
· Ensure that all aspects of the facility, such as animal habitats, exhibits, and public areas, are well-maintained and comply with applicable regulations and standards.
· Contribute to conservation efforts and participate in research initiatives by collaborating with scientists and researchers to design and implement research projects, conservation programs, and breeding initiatives aimed at species preservation and ecological sustainability.
· Ensure compliance with local, national, and international regulations and standards for marine zoological facilities.
· Stay updated on relevant laws and regulations pertaining to animal welfare, safety, and environmental conservation and ensure that the facility meets all requirements.
· Engage with various stakeholders, including government agencies, non-profit organizations, and the local community on collaborative initiatives.
· Provide information to regulatory bodies, and represent the facility at public forums and meetings.
· Develop and implement contingency plans by coordinating with relevant authorities, staff, and external resources to ensure the safety of animals, team members, and visitors.
Requirements:
· Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as marine biology, zoology, wildlife management, or equivalent, with at least 15 years’ experience in managing zoological operations, of which the last 8 years should be in a leadership role.
· In-depth knowledge and understanding of zoological operations, including animal care, welfare, and conservation principles.
· Familiarity with relevant regulations, standards, and best practices.
· Strong leadership and management abilities in supervising and motivating a diverse team.
· Good track record in strategic planning, budgeting, and resource allocation.
· Able to make critical decisions, solve problems, and delegate responsibilities effectively.
· Demonstrated expertise in animal care and welfare, including experience with a variety of marine and terrestrial species.
· Knowledge of behavioral management, enrichment techniques, veterinary care, and animal training methods.
· In-depth understanding and strong experience in conservation programs, research initiatives, and breeding programs related to species preservation, habitat management, and environmental sustainability.
· Excellent working knowledge of local, national, and international regulations and standards related to animal welfare, safety, and environmental conservation. Must be able to ensure compliance and keep up-to-date with evolving regulations in order to maintain the facility's operations within legal and ethical boundaries.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are necessary for effectively collaborating and communicating complex concepts clearly, and engaging with internal teams, external stakeholders, media and the public.
· Possess strong problem-solving skills and the ability to handle crises or emergencies effectively. This includes developing contingency plans, making sound decisions under pressure, and coordinating with relevant parties to ensure the safety and well-being of animals, team members, and visitors.
