Job Description
Main Objectives:
- Cultivate a sense of belonging and school affiliation through positive peer relations.
- Strengthen students’ social-emotional competencies (self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship management and responsible decision making) and resilience.
- Improve students’ efficacy and nurture their strengths and potential.
Administration and Planning
- Provide a developmentally appropriate training programme in consultation with the teachers-in-charge.
- Submit monthly report of participants’ attendance and progress assessment.
- Communicate with the teacher in-charge on all matters pertaining to the After-School Engagement students.
The programme should include:
- Every Tuesday and Thursday – good range of small group engagement activities (e.g., games, sports etc.)
- Every Wednesday – programme for student development in line with objectives and outcomes stated above.
- Seven checkpoint activities at specified dates
- 18 Mar – Team Bonding Games in school
- 30 Apr – Preparation for and contributing to School House Challenge prior to and on stipulated date
- 4 Jun, 11 Sep, 5 Nov – Values in Action (service learning) project for disadvantaged children
- 24 Sep – Contribute to Teacher’s Day Celebration
- 22 Oct – Post-exam activity
- 29 Oct – Learning journey
- Two concurrent modules spanning from Term 2 to Term 3 for a total of 6 sessions for 10 students each, e.g. Module 1: music/drama based; Module 2: art/making based.
- Start the Semester Right activities on 25 Jun which should include an out-of-classroom activity
- Start the Year Right activities on 29 Dec which should include an out-of-classroom activity
- Provide all programme materials / resources in soft-copy and share with teacher-in-charge before printing.
Implementation and Review
- Share plans for each session with teachers-in-charge at least two weeks in advance.
- Conduct and manage weekly Wednesday’s programme for a class of students.
- Develop the leadership skills of the selected students.
- Assist the teachers in the school in the operation of After-School Engagement venue on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
- Mentor students and model good values.
- To work with the teachers-in-charge to motivate students and equip them with relevant skills and values.
- Conduct a pre and post survey based on the objectives at the end of June and November
- Adjust the programme based on feedback from teachers-in-charge feedback, and survey data.
Engagement with External Parties
- Liaise with external communities and provide platforms for students to partake in a sustained service-learning project and learning journeys together with the teachers-in-charge.
- Service-learning projects should be sustained for the same beneficiaries across the three interactions. The target beneficiaries are disadvantaged children such as young children at risk, underprivileged children, children with special needs or other similar sectors.
- Post exam activity should be conducted at an external venue that is play-focused for students to wind down.
- Learning journey should include a trip to one industry based on students’ interest and aligned with current economies of work, i.e. Green Economy, Care Economy or Digital Economy.
Requirements
- Proficient in written and spoken English
- Registered with the Ministry of Education.
- At least Diploma in Youth Work/ Social Work/ Educational Psychology/ Counselling or its equivalent.
- At least 3 years of counselling experience/social work and had worked with youths.
- Have conducted any current and past training for similar programmes from 2022 to 2024
Working hours
- Term time: 2.30 pm to 5 pm (except for * from 12.30 pm to 3 pm)
- School Holiday and identified external activity: 1 pm to 5 pm (PM)
- Term time: 2.5 hours/ session, School Holidays: 4 hours/ session - Grand total: 218.5 hours
- Service not required on Saturdays, Sundays and gazetted public holidays
