THE ROLE
A Cultural Strategist who is both researcher and strategist; experienced and proficient as a deep critical thinker, rigorous researcher, sharp analyst, and impactful strategist.
The individual must be able to lead clients, projects, workstreams and teams from end to end, inspiring confidence and delivering impactful work that is insightful, inspiring, actionable. Contributions to thinking, frameworking, methodologies, and output design are expected.
The individual should be curious and creative, hands-on, biased to action with strong outcome and solution orientation, plugged into culture and business worlds across myriad subjects and sources. Travel is part of the job – for fieldwork, client engagements, team and industry events.
This individual will report to the Partner of JUNK, and will nurture, guide, and lead other team members.
Key Responsibilities include:
● Lead projects and workstreams from end to end, which includes:
o Client, team, process management
o Building macro- and micro- timelines, with internal and client milestone deliverables
o Design winning proposals with strong business and cost sensibilities
o Conceptualise and craft research process documents: sampling and recruitment questionnaire, discussion guide, survey questionnaire, research stimuli, etc
o Conduct and supervise fieldwork: includes moderation, immersion, supervision of fieldwork in foreign languages
o Ownership of strategic objective and scope: have clarity of objectives, with ability to challenge and update objectives during course of the project, to ensure deliverables are focused and impactful
o Lead analysis and deliverable creation with junior team members, with guidance from Partner, to deliver sharp insights and strategic business implications, with impactful structure, flow, storytelling, written andvisual language
o Presentation and Workshop facilitation
● Co-develop and contribute to non-client workstreams with Partner and Business Manager, which include:
o Editorial Content: researching and writing interesting, provocative, and fun cultural insights and thought leadership pieces across formats (e.g reports, essays, social media content, etc)
o Events: organizing and participating e.g. dinner events, panel discussions, exhibitions
o Industry Events: content or speaking opportunities in conferences, panels, papers, etc
● Team Management and Nurturance
o Day-to-day positive engagement and relationship with team members, aligned to JUNK’s team culture which is tight-knit, open and candid, without hierarchy (low power distance)
o Planning, guiding, and enabling growth of junior team members
● Co-lead New Business and Network Development
o Identify potential clients, win and grow client accounts.
o Expand network to generate new opportunities and partnership for work, fame, business for JUNK.
o These include, and are not limited to, doing necessary legwork such as competitive analysis, networking, participating in and contributing to industry events, crafting proactive proposals and co-creating project briefs with clients
