Job Description

One Research Engineer position is open in the research group of Assistant Professor Zhao Lin, at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, National University of Singapore (NUS).

The Research Engineer (RE) will work closely with the Principal Investigator (PI) on visual navigation foundation model for mobile robots, exploration using reinforcement learning control, learning-based control, etc. The RE will develop and train algorithms that enable intelligent and robust autonomous navigation in unseen environments. Hardware experiments will be carried out to test and demonstrate the applications of the developed algorithms.

The initial appointment duration is 12 months, which can then be extended based on an evaluation at the end of the initial appointment.

The candidates should have a Master’s degree from a reputable university, with expertise in robot learning, reinforcement learning, and aerial robotics.

A successful candidate should have a solid mathematical background (such as in calculus, linear algebra, ODE/PDE, optimization, real analysis, probability theory, stochastic process, etc). Strong publication records in leading journals and conferences of the relevant fields, and practical hands-on experience in applying visual foundation models to real mobile robots are required.

The incumbent will provide administrative support to the Undergraduate Studies Section, Dean's Office, Faculty of Science. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following -

1) Faculty Co-ordinator for timetabling

• Keep abreast of Science Faculty Curriculum Committee (SFCC)/Board of Undergraduate Studies (BUS)/University Committee on Educational Policy (UCEP)/Senate approved proposals to facilitate planning and scheduling of classes and examinations.
• Coordinate with departments for planning of following academic year's timetable in the Class and Examination Timetabling System (CMIS).
• Update class and examinations timetable changes as and when required.
• Work with departments to verify accuracy of data and resolve any issues for the purpose of Student Feedback Exercise.

2) Pre-examination preparation and during examination support

• Plan and coordinate examination activities for each Academic Year according to the timelines and deadlines stipulated by Registrar's Office.
• Coordinate system updates for examinations related information and ensure data is appropriately entered.
• Act as liaison between Registrar's Office and departments to ensure that all necessary information are disseminated and shared with all parties involved.
• See to the examinations logistical requirements as well as arrangements for students with special needs.

3) Post-examination activities

• Coordinate and work closely with departments to complete the necessary checks and comply with the examinations processing schedule stipulated by Registrar's Office.
• Perform the duties of Faculty's Board of Examiners Secretariat and ensure that decisions made are updated accurately and quickly in Edurec and followed through.
• Plan, conduct and prepare report for examinations audit.

4) Undergraduate Studies Section duties

• To be rostered for section duties such as taking notes of regular section meetings, replying to email enquiries from students, and counter duties.

5) Others

• Provide assistance at University/Faculty level events such as Open House, Freshmen Orientation Briefing, and Commencement.
• Any other duties as assigned by the Vice Dean.

Qualifications/Requirements/Other Info

• Degree holder with positive learning attitude.
• Experience in timetabling and scheduling will be advantageous.
• Proficient in Microsoft applications.
• Ability to work under pressure and multi-task in a fast-paced environment with multiple timelines and demands.
• Ability to exercise tact and discretion in handling sensitive and confidential information.
• Possess effective oral and written communication skills.
• Mature, independent, adaptive and meticulous.
• A team player with the ability to interact well with all levels of stakeholders.

- Remuneration is based on a 12-month salary structure, with annual variable bonus which is subject to incumbent’s performance and the University/School’s prevailing remuneration policies.

Job Purpose

To design and deliver adventure-based programmes for clients; ensure equipment functionality and liaise with relevant parties including schools and government agencies. To participate in some sales and marketing initiatives and projects as assigned as well.

Responsibilities

· Conduct programme recee, present findings and submit recee associated forms

· Conduct risk assessment for events and programmes including submission of risk assessment forms.

· Plan, design and organize adventure-based programmes and training materials including (and not limited to) lesson plans, programme feedback and evaluation mechanisms.

· Ensure equipment and facility functionality and maintenance to provide safety for clients.

· Facilitate various adventure-based programs, workshops and related services.

· Work in collaboration with staff to ensure the smooth running of programmes.

· Play a variety of roles for programmes which includes instructor, facilitator, coach and mentor.

· Assist the Manager in ensuring that SOPs and documentation are kept up-to-date in good order to fulfil internal audit requirements and industry standards.

· Conduct research activities which include intervention, data collection and basic data analysis and research write-up

· To be involved in promoting the overall branding and services of BTAC by being involved in both internal and external events when called upon.

Requirements

· Able to perform physical tasks and activities such as running, hiking, swimming, abseiling, natural rock climbing and sport climbing.

· To be comfortable working evenings and weekends when required.

· To be comfortable leading local and overseas expeditions which may involve trekking, climbing or paddling for long distances when required.

· Minimum Diploma holder with good communications skills (spoken and written).

· Have a passion for active sports or outdoor adventure.

· Has the passion to work with children and youth; including at risk children and youths

· Preferably with SNCS level 1/ level 2 or higher, SNAS level 1/ level 2 or higher, SCF 1-star/2-star award or higher, SSI Pool Freediving (equivalent and/or higher) with a valid first aid certification.

· Preferably with facilitation experience in ice breakers, team building/bonding games and problem-based activities.

Key responsibilities

1. To prepare all the meals required by the Centre’s menu before the meal times.

2. To ensure that all food served is hygienically prepared.

3. To ensure that the inventory of food ingredients and other supplies are adequate and place order for these if necessary.

4. Review the menu every 6 months

5. Work on Monday to Friday only
