Job Description

Tropical Marine Science Institute (TMSI) of National University of Singapore (NUS) has an immediate vacancy in the area of regional sea level variability in the warming climate.

The ongoing Project “Understanding the low-frequency variability of coastal sea level in Southeast Asia using a regional ocean model and observations” has been funded by National Research Foundation until 31 July 2025. The successful candidate will be working with a multidisciplinary team of atmosphere and ocean scientists, and particularly be responsible for:

-running NEMO ocean model using past and projected forces provided by the atmospheric team;

-use data analysis and model simulations experiments to understand the mechanism of regional sea level variability driven by large scale atmosphere/oceanic processes.

Depending on qualifications and experience, successful Candidate could be employed at Research Fellow or Senior Research Fellow level.

Qualifications

Successful candidate will be having the following demonstrated knowledge, skills and experience:

• Understanding of regional sea level variability and large-scale atmosphere/ocean coupling;
• Understanding of mechanisms of ocean response to the climate change;
• Capability to set and run regional sensitivity experiments using NEMO ocean model;
• Capability to use data analysis methods for ocean dynamics research;
• Ability to work in multidisciplinary team of researchers, including ocean and atmosphere scientists;
• PhD in ocean sciences from a recognised University
• Track records in publications.

Job Description

The staff would lead at least one project under supervision of the Principle Investigator (PI).

• The scope of the project is on biomass valorization for either aviation fuel production or transformation into advanced materials.
• Develop a well justified approach to achieve a goal, once a problem statement and/or a research scope is defined by the PI and the staff.
• Executive the plan experimentally and interpret the data critically.
• Report to the PI proactively and take the initiative to propose changes to the plan when the project faces a technical challenge.
• Draft manuscripts and attend conferences to publicize the project findings.
• Support other team members and train junior colleagues.
• Draft research proposal together with the PI.

Qualifications

A well-qualified candidate should:

(1) be passionate about research;

(2) have a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or a similar/equivalent discipline;

(3) be an expert of chemical conversion of natural and synthetic polymers;

(4) command both spoken and written English at professional level;

(5) be a good team player;

(6) excellent publication record in related areas.

Responsibilities:

· Understand and be familiar with professional practice and contract administration processes. Technical knowledge in contracts terms and law.

· Review on the supplier/contractor quotation or proposal and make sure that all requirements are complied with.

· Able to provide budget cost or estimates as per instruction.

· Able to communicate with other Departments in dealing with various documents and issues.

· Coordinate with the supplier/contractor regarding follow up on bills and quantities.

· Prepare and submit monthly payment claim to client.

· To source supplier locally/overseas for items required by client and follow up the necessary accordingly.

· To evaluate and tabulate monthly /quarterly for material and labour cost. Finalization of project final accounts.

· Tendering process and tender evaluation report. To reply tender clarification, preparation for tender interview and presentation etc.

Requirements:

• Candidate must possess at least Bachelor's Degree/Post Graduate Diploma/Professional Degree in Quantity Survey, Engineering (Mechatronic/Electromechanical) or equivalent.
• Required language(s): English/Mandarin (to coordinate with the Chinese speaking supplier/contractor regarding follow up on bills and quantities).
• At least 5 Year(s) of working experience in the related field is required for this position.
• Required Skill(s): Contracts Management, Cost Management, accurate, analysis, team player.
• Preferably Senior Executive specialized in Quantity Surveying or equivalent.

Responsibilities

· To carry out works as assigned and ensuring that the works are carried out to schedule and in accordance to relevant regulations.

· Coordinate and supervise site workers, identify operating problems and perform trouble shooting and emergency repair.

· Perform routine maintenance work on TBM equipment.

· Responsible for the installation of TBM parts including repair and replace damaged/worn out parts.

· Testing of TBM equipment to ensure smooth running.

· Assist the daily activities at work site to meet project progress and the main contractor’s program and requirements.

· Preparation and submission of site daily progress reports.

· To attend the project meetings.

· To perform testing and commissioning at work site.

· Assisting the Project Manager in the management of the site on a daily basis.

· Any other task as assigned by management.

Requirements

· Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.

· Minimum 5-10 years of experience in the tunnelling industry.

· Relevant project experience in the field of tunnelling project in Singapore.

· Good interpersonal and communication skills.

· A team player with strong passion in project management, marketing.

· Self-motivated and able to leverage on team.

· Resourceful, meticulous, able to multi-task and handle pressure well.

· Responsible and positive working attitude.
