Our Bidfood Head of Business Development leads our category sales specialisation; the driving force of the strategic categories that give our business a competitive edge.
Primary Responsibilities
Staff management and development
- Recruit and manage business development & executive chef team members who have the necessary skills, an appetite to learn and enthusiasm for the contribution business development makes to our business.
- Identify the team behaviours, competencies and outcomes that contribute to success and support each team member to achieve these, reflected as the highest standards of service and support to our internal and external customers and suppliers.
- Develop a positive and productive performance culture where employees receive constructive feedback, are recognised for results achieved and supported where improvement is required.
Know our market
- Invest in deep understanding of the Singapore market dynamics; including but not limited to supply chain dynamics, local and offshore suppliers, competitors and impact of commodity markets and global pricing index.
- Develop relationships with key stakeholders especially where this has a bearing on the ability for Bidfood to capture a competitive advantage with respect to sales opportunities, or supply & pricing.
- Represent Bidfood in customer, vendor and industry events as appropriate.
- Track market movements and use all available resources to provide predictive insights of market movement as supporting intel for our Bidfood teams, suppliers and customers to aid market understanding.
Category development
- Lead the business development team to define and implement category strategy with respect to product range matrix, clearly identifying key products that align with our customer needs, and sales opportunities. Deliver range ladders and brand positioning with respect to quality, price and fit for purpose.
- Take a leadership role with strategic suppliers with respect to business planning working together with sales, procurement, marketing and supplier teams to develop effective development plans & goals that deliver profitable growth.
- Ensure that regular two-way reviews are conducted with key suppliers, and that follow up action plans address both Bidfood and the suppliers’ concerns.
- Identify opportunities for new strategic category development that continues to enhance Bidfood’s vision to be the preferred broadline provider of choice and reinforces Bidfood competitive advantage through industry leadership and technical capability. Take the lead on strategic planning and implementation until established and transitioned into business development or procurement BAU management.
Sell more
- Lead from the front to champion the business development teams intimate support and engagement with our sales team, reflecting the importance of the front line sales activity to our business success.
- Deliver a comprehensive program of product training programs, drawing on internal & external resource that positions our sales and CS teams with the right level of knowledge to competently and confidently support their customers category needs.
- Work with marketing, sales, procurement and suppliers to ensure structured promotional activity that supports sales momentum in line with category strategy.
- Using our business development and executive chef teams support our key customers with additional menu and product innovation that increases our sales & margin; lean into solutions that reduce labour and skills requirement, save time and food cost.
- Ensure our pricing strategies across all customer segments reflect the best position for Bidfood to maximise margin while maintaining competitive positioning.
Sales & monthly targets
- In conjunction with the Bidfood Singapore management team identify the annual & quarterly sales & gross profit $ budgets for strategic categories.
- Work with the business development and sales teams to exceed the targets!
- Report on team achievement and market activity as required.
Company leadership
- Participate deeply in the overall company strategy as a member of the BFS management team to deliver the overall business objectives for sales, EBIT, working capital and ROFE.
- Support other teams and managers in their own objectives and KPI’s reflecting our belief that the best success is as a team.
