Job Summary
We are recruiting four new members to join our core team of Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) experts, positions are available in Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and Thailand.
In this role, you’ll be instrumental in implementing effective HSSE practices across new projects, with a focus on reducing risks and promoting a safe, healthy environment. You’ll work closely with site leadership teams and employees, helping to build a strong safety culture and applying your specialized knowledge in risk management and health and safety in practical, impactful ways.
Key Accountabilities
- Provide on-ground HSSE expertise for safe operations, focusing on managing risks at new greenfield or brownfield landside operations. Actively engage with workers to reinforce a zero-harm workplace and lead by example in integrating a safety-first mindset.
- Develop and implement onboarding plans that address critical risks and eliminate unsafe behaviors, while also supporting new hires and project staff through training on HSSE policies to build strong capabilities.
- Influence leadership to integrate safety into all operational aspects and promote a strong safety culture across every level. Design innovative safety programs that ensure participation from frontline workers, and coach supervisors and managers to embody these values in their daily operations.
- Build and provide supportive tools for Supervisors and Team Leaders, helping them enhance operational efficiency and performance in their day-to-day activities.
- Collaborate with HSSE, Operations, Engineering, and Commercial teams, as well as contractors, security, regulators, and emergency services personnel, to prioritize and address safety issues effectively.
- Maintain an active presence across project locations by conducting regular walk-arounds and assessments to identify HSSE risks requiring intervention or control. Lead investigations into Serious Incidents or High Potential events, create action plans, and communicate findings to prevent recurrence.
- Embed HSSE procedures and systems to ensure compliance with legislative and company standards, regularly assessing adherence to global HSSE standards.
- Monitor contractor and third-party activities, especially high-risk work, to eliminate or mitigate hazards that threaten health, safety, or the environment.
- Provide independent HSSE performance reports, highlighting risks and successes, and keep senior leadership informed on critical developments.
Qualification and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 15 years of experience in a senior HSSE role, preferably within the ports, terminals, or heavy industry sector.
- Demonstrated exceptional leadership skills, with the ability to influence and drive cultural change.
- Proven experience in implementing HSSE management systems.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of delivering clear and concise messages to various stakeholders.
- Strong internal customer relationship skills, maintaining credibility and trust.
- Must be willing to travel extensively and be prepared for deployment to various countries for 3-6 months, depending on operational requirements.
- Proficiency in safety management software and Microsoft Office applications.
- Experience working in different APAC countries and familiarity with local safety regulations and cultural considerations.
- Multilingual skills are a plus, particularly proficiency in languages commonly spoken in APAC.
