The Role

In this position, you will be working on backend components to support existing technology-based platforms that collect, analyse and act on data related to in-flight employee fatigue. As a member of our team, you will work closely with software engineers, data analysts, project managers and external partners to deploy back-facing software systems for use in existing platforms towards managing employee fatigue. Your expertise will be instrumental in developing back-facing components such as system modelling and debugging, software architecture, system maintenance, endpoint configurations, information security and database setup.

Your roles will include:

• Collaborate with the design team, other software engineers and product managers to design, build, enhance, and test new features
• Write clean and maintainable code that is properly tested and reviewed
• Understand the product thoroughly. Analyse, design and develop functionalities based on product requirements
• Design and build scalable and reliable server services
• Work with front-end engineers to provide API endpoints
• Liaison with external technical representatives to establish and test infrastructure architecture and service

Requirements

Job Summary

The Genomics clinical lab is looking for an Research Scientist, whose main focus is to develop NGS clinical diagnostic testing workflow for academic and clinical research service, and train technical personnel, leading to the implementation of these new workflow in a commercial service lab environment. The appointment holder is expected to have an advanced degree with working experience in NGS technologies. The ideal candidate would be well-balanced between having the discipline to work in a commercial service laboratory environment, and a passion for translating innovative, newly developed laboratory tests for commercial implementation.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Lead the molecular assay development and validation efforts in a commercial service lab setting.
• Demonstrate hands-on leadership to successfully implement NGS service workflow in the commercial service laboratory.
• Design, plan and execute validation tests, establish QC criteria, write validation plan and report.
• Lead the SOP writing and technology transfer to the operations team.
• Propose and implement process improvements and EQA.
• Work closely with other Scientists and Product Managers to provide scientific inputs related to company products and testing services.

Desired Skills & Competencies

Job Description

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering seeks to hire a Laboratory technologist to provide support in the structural engineering laboratory, which houses a large array of heavy testing equipment, to support educational activities, including both undergraduate lab classes and final year projects. An experienced laboratory technologist will be essential to ensure the safe operation of large equipment during the lab class and to guide the final year students in using the heavy testing machines in the lab.

• To prepare undergraduate lab classes in the structural engineering laboratory, which includes:

• preparation of the concrete material specimens for the lab classes
• preparation of the reinforced concrete beam specimens for the lab classes
• assist the students in the testing of various specimens during the lab classes
• to coordinate the disposal of specimens after the lab class
• to provide safety instructions and guidelines for students before and during the lab classes

• To guide the undergraduate final year students in the use of heavy testing equipment:

• the safe operation of a large number of universal testing machines with the capacity from 30 ton to 100 ton
• safe operation of compression material testing with capacity up to 1000 tons
• safe operation of hydraulic actuators from 100 tons to 2000 tons
• to provide safety advice to the final year students working in the lab

• To enhance the safe work procedures and risk assessments of the heavy testing equipment in response to:

• different lab class requirement due to the foreseeable changes in the evolving curriculum in the College of Design and Engineering
• new final year research projects in emerging areas of structural resilience in response to the new research directions in the sea-level rise, climate change, etc.
