Job Description

One Research Engineer position is open in the research group of Assistant Professor Zhao Lin, at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, National University of Singapore (NUS).

The Research Engineer (will) will work closely with the Principal Investigator (PI) on reinforcement learning control and learning-based control, which leverage the advantages of both deep learning and conventional controls with theoretical guarantees. The RE will develop AI-assisted planning and control algorithms that enable intelligent and robust autonomous operations and multi-agent collaborations. Hardware experiments will be carried out to test and demonstrate the applications of the developed algorithms.

The initial appointment duration is 12 months, which can then be extended based on an evaluation at the end of the initial appointment.

The research project involves (1) theoretical research in control, learning, and optimization, (2) developing new control and learning algorithms, and (3) 3D Simulations and real hardware experiments.

The candidates should have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from a reputable university, with expertise in control theory, reinforcement learning theory, and aerial robotics.

A successful candidate should have a solid mathematical background (such as in calculus, linear algebra, ODE/PDE, optimization, real analysis, probability theory, stochastic process, etc). Responsibilities

• Program functional analysis based on Sequence of Operation (SOO) and develop application interfaces, alarms, and dashboard to monitor and control utility services such as, but not limited to, Chilled water, Air compressors, Glycol, Steam
• Perform quality assurance/quality control for the project deliverables.
• Development of control system schematics, panel layout drawings, control diagrams, control functions write up of systems, cable schedule and data point schedule.
• Conduct and/or supervise site systems testing and commissioning.
• Coordinate, track, and report documentation changes during project execution
• Update project progress in a timely manner
• Perform maintenance and troubleshooting of live applications and associated network.

Requirements

• Degree/Diploma in Electrical/Mechanical/Automation/Building Technology Engineering or equivalent.
• 2-3 years’ experience in HVAC and Building Management Systems (BMS) industries or relevant fields.
• Proficiency in Integrated Building Management Solutions such as ICONICS Genesis 64
• Proficiency in BACnet protocol including IP, ETH and MS/TP, Modbus protocol including TCP and RTU and Networking Services and Client Workstations
• Knowledge of HVAC control applications, BMS and electrical power management systems
• Experience with Direct Digital control (DDC) and Programmable Logic control (PLC) system design, development and management is preferred.
• Ability to build and install BMS system to monitor and regulate various building services, including chillers, heat exchangers, ACMV, lighting and power metering etc
• Familiar with BCA/NEA requirements
• Has a good safety mindset and displays good WSH behaviour.
• Excellent problem-solving, organizational, analytical, and critical thinking skills

As the Research Engineer (Equipment/Operations), you are directly involved in tool installation activities for semiconductor process tools. You would need to work proactively to coordinate with the contractor on the ground for the execution and take corrective and preventive actions of lessons learned, due diligently to prevent reoccurrence. You are responsible for performing utilities turn-on after installation is completed. You must perform the activities per ASTAR site procedure and safety policies to ensure all tool-install-related activities are completed, meeting safety, quality, schedule and budget requirements. You will also be required to perform other activities such as operations for the different semiconductor modules (Diffusion, Litho, Dry/Wet Etch, Thin Film, Implant, etc).

Responsibilities:

• Coordinate with all tool-install base contractors to execute equipment hookup for new tools, to meet the high-quality standards, dynamic schedule, and forecasted budget.
• Coordinate with the Project owner (NGTC/APM) to facilitate utility release as per the planned schedule and update tool release status timely
• Follow all safety and environmental procedures to ensure compliance with EHS-related regulations, risk assessment, safe work procedures, and permit-to-work system.
• Play an active role in safety, actively participating in safety discussions and safe work practices.
• Establish regular area walks to identify opportunities for improved safety, cleanliness, housekeeping and efficiency

1. Instrumentations selection and design on the measurements and verifications (M&V) system (temperature sensors, flow meters, pressure sensors, weather stations, power meters)
2. Centrifugal water pumps energy optimizations strategy
3. Chillers energy optimizations strategy
4. Cooling tower energy optimizations strategy
5. Heat balance substantiating test

• Operating system efficiency (OSE) report preparation
• Documentation of the chiller system optimization design

Prefer candidates who can commit at least 5 months (July 2024 - December 2024)

Responsibilities:
1. The candidate will be required to perform on-wafer device testing, test data analysis & perform test measurement automation
2. The candidate should have hands-on experience in using an oscilloscope, power supply, analyzer, probe station, and related test tools and data presentation
3. The candidate should know basic programming to instrumentation control using LabView, MATLAB, and other software such as Visual Basic, Python, C++, etc. as a plus
