The Nanyang Environment & Water Research Institute (NEWRI) invites applications for the position of Research Fellow to participate in an industrially funded research project on identifying chemicals released into the environment from industrial processes. The position requires in-depth practical experience in modern chemical analytical instrumentation, particularly tandem methods including liquid/gas chromatography - mass spectrometry. Experience in targeted and non-targeted analysis of trace levels of chemicals is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support research work on water and environmental sample analysis using various high-end analytical instruments for research including Agilent 6550/6560 LC-QTOF, 7010B GC-QQQ, LC-QQQ with online SPE, and 8900 GC/LC-ICP-QQQ.
- Develop an integrated workflow for the identification and toxicity assessment of water disinfection byproducts using ion-mobility high-resolution mass spectrometry (IM-HRMS) and cell analysis solutions (RTCA and Seahorse).
- Compare the use of novel cell analysis solutions for toxicity assessment (RTCA and Seahorse) with traditional approaches used in the environmental market.
- Clearly document the experimental work performed and sample information.
- Assist in preparing presentations and reporting data for the work done using Microsoft Office Suites.
- Support laboratory procurement, inventory, maintenance, and housekeeping.
- Assist in daily operational, safety, administrative, and logistics duties related to the research activities.
Job Requirements:
- PhD in Analytical Chemistry, Environmental Chemistry or a related field that uses analytical instrumentation.
- Minimum 4 years of working experience in a research environment (including PhD studies).
- Proven expertise in liquid chromatography – mass spectrometry.
- Experience on state-of-the-art instrumentation including LC-QQQ and LC-QTOF instruments.
- Knowledge and experience on common analytical instruments (e.g. fluorescence microscopes, real-time PCR, multi-mode readers, cell analyzer).
- Preferred experience in cell-based assays in microplate formats and with absorbance/fluorescence read-out (e.g. Reporter cell assays).
- Experience in analytical library preparation is preferred.
- Meticulous, proactive, organized & able to work independently according to plans.
- Good communication skills & team player.
