Asian School of the Environment (ASE) is hiring a research assistant to assist in field and laboratory data collection in a new, Nparks-funded project entitled: “Comparison of litterfall nutrient cycling between forests and urban green spaces in Singapore”.

The research assistant will work closely with three other team members to collect data for this project, with a focus on sequencing large numbers of invertebrate and microbe samples.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct lab work to sort and sequence invertebrate and soil/litter microbe samples
• Conduct field work to natural forests and urban parks to collect leaf litter, soil and invertebrate samples
• Conduct lab work to process and analyze nutrient contents in leaf litter and soil samples
• Assist in procuring project logistics and other project administrative duties
• Train students and ensure the safe conduct of student research projects

Job Requirements:

• Bachelor degree in biology, zoology, ecology, environmental science, or equivalent
• Competent in basic molecular taxonomy skills, such as DNA extraction, PCR, running gels, processing of sequence data, etc.
• Able to do regular (up to thrice weekly) fieldwork
• Good team player
• Good attitude towards learning the many skills and techniques necessary to execute this project
• Prior experience with entomological work is advantageous, but not a requirement for application
• Keen interest in nature/entomology/botany

JOB DESCRIPTION

• Advising management on and ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations including MAS guidelines relating to AML/CFT, outsourcing and technology risk management; MAS Business Trust Act and SGX Listing Rules.
• Managing periodic filings/notification to MAS or other relevant regulatory bodies.
• Managing the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) framework; and working closely with business heads in ensuring that the risk management processes are adhered to at the operational level.
• Managing the implementation of risk and compliance programs.
• Point of contact for regulators on risk and compliance matters.
• Liaising with and managing auditors on risk and compliance related matters.
• Supporting management in reporting to the boards and/or board committees on risk and compliance related matters.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

• Degree in Finance/Banking/Accountancy
• 6 to 8 years compliance/risk management/audit experience within REIT/business trust/fund management industry
• Good knowledge/understanding of laws and regulations including Securities and Futures Act, Financial Advisers Act, MAS Business Trust Act and SGX Listing Rules
• Good knowledge/understanding of Enterprise Risk Management principles and processes of REIT/business trust/fund management businesses
