The Director of Communications oversees all aspects of College communications to develop and implement an integrated communications plan, building the College’s reputation, managing issues and crises, and engaging a breadth of stakeholders, including partners, parents, students and staff.

General Duties

• Participate in the school’s staff appraisal system as appropriate
• Take responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children
• Present the best possible image of the school in general, and, in particular, in all contact and communications with parents, students, staff, visitors, the general public, suppliers and all other external organisations.
• Undertake training and staff development as needed and as determined by the school management
• Undertake such other senior leadership duties, commensurate with the post, which your Head of College, or other members of the College Leadership Team may occasionally require, including morning welcome duties and evening networking events

The successful candidate will have:

• Proven experience in developing a communications plan/strategy in line with Group direction
• Excellent writing and editing skills in English
• Deep relationships with local and international media based in your market
• Experience in leading crisis communications
• Sound understanding of social media platforms with ability to create compelling content across a variety of platforms
• Familiarity with website content management and design, online tools and software for editing video, photos, and audio
• Strong communications skills with ability to connect effectively with a diverse set of stakeholders from school senior management team to partners and parents in both one-on-one and group settings
• Proven success of leading a team of communications experts, and working with and coaching leaders
• Ability to adapt and work independently, inter-College and as part of project-based teams, as required
• Experience of managing internal and external production personnel in areas of print, photography, web presence, video production, and copywriting

Key Responsibilities:

1. Marketing & Communications

· Assist in developing and executing online and offline marketing campaigns to promote events, fundraising initiatives, and programmes.

· Support the content creation process for the charity’s social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn), email newsletters, and website.

· Draft compelling copy for email blasts and website updates to showcase success stories, donor highlights, and campaign milestones.

· Monitor and analyse marketing metrics to measure the success of communications strategies and suggest improvements.

2. Event Coordination

· Support the planning and coordination of charity events, including fundraising events, community outreach, and awareness campaigns.

· Assist in liaising with event vendors, sponsors, and volunteers to ensure smooth event execution.

· Manage event logistics, such as registration, volunteer coordination, and on-site support.

· Prepare event materials such as brochures, banners, and promotional content.

· Ensure post-event follow-up, including thank-you notes and post-event reports.

3. Branding & Public Relations

· Assist with maintaining brand consistency across all communications materials.

· Support media outreach efforts by compiling media lists and assisting with pitches.

4. Admin

· Maintain department records, answer and transfer calls, collect and distribute mail, and manage enquiry emails.

· Track inventory and stock supplies, and ensure low supplies are highlighted for replenishment.

· Perform any other admin and operations-related tasks as needed.

· Able to commit 3 months or more.

· Strong writing and editing skills with an eye for detail.

· Familiarity with social media platforms and content management systems (eg. Canva, Facebook Ads).

Job Description:

• Brand Management: Contribute to the development of SLEC’s integrated marketing communications strategy, including managing corporate brand assets and ensuring consistency and synergy across all platforms. Support both external and internal communications efforts to enhance the organisation’s brand reputation both online and offline.
• Content Creation & Management: Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to manage the design, writing, editing and production of collaterals, including our annual report, newsletters, EDMs, corporate gifts and marketing collaterals on SLEC’s services and programmes. Manage and update the content on our corporate website so information is relevant and up to date.
• Creative Ideation & Execution: Provide innovative ideas and concepts for storytelling and messaging across print and digital channels. Review storyboarding for videography and photography to create compelling narratives.
• Mainstream Media Engagement: Work with mainstream media and faith-based media to publicise SLEC’s services and programmes. This includes helming media releases, pitches, replies, interviews, engaging with journalists at events and building rapport with them.
• Social Media Engagement: Develop and implement online strategies to enhance the organisation’s presence on social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok). This includes curating engaging content, fostering online community interaction, monitoring social media trends, ensuring alignment with overall branding and messaging.
• Communications Counsel: Advise internal stakeholders on communications issues in alignment with the organisation’s mission and messaging. Partner them to develop engagement materials including speeches, impact stories, presentation materials etc.
• Impact Review: Monitor and analyse content performance across print and online channels to optimise engagement with target audiences.
• Administrative support for projects helmed by the Communications & Fundraising department.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's Degree or Postgraduate Diploma in Communications, Business, or a related discipline.
• Minimum two years of experience in a similar role. Fresh graduates with a passion for the social service / healthcare sectors and strong learning ability are encouraged to apply.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of developing compelling narrative and messaging; crafting clear, concise and creative content that connects with target audiences.
• Experience with mainstream media and social media engagement. Aptitude in digital and social media, as well as design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (e.g. Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Premiere Pro) would be an advantage.
• Proven track record in project management.
• Ability to work independently and proactively in a fast-paced environment, while also being a team player with strong interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Basic proficiency in Chinese, for communication with our elders and review of our Chinese collaterals, will be an advantage.
