About the Role

As a Project Engineer or Site Engineer, you'll play a pivotal role in ensuring the successful execution of our projects. Your responsibilities will include:

• Overseeing engineering, planning, quality, cost control, and scheduling functions.
• Adhering to the McConnell Dowell Project Execution Plan and safety/environmental responsibilities.
• Assisting senior engineers and the construction manager in daily site activities.
• Monitoring and reporting on site progress, including direct employee and subcontractor works.
• Developing procedures for construction activities and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation.
• Representing McConnell Dowell professionally in interactions with clients and stakeholders.
• Promoting McConnell Dowell’s core values and fostering a strong safety culture.

What We’re Looking For

To excel in this role, you should have:

• A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering. 3 to 5 years of relevant on-site civil construction experience.
• Preferably, local experience and knowledge of civil infrastructure projects in Singapore.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• The ability to work on an alternate 6-day workweek schedule.

Job Description:

1. Responsible for planning, scheduling, conducting, and coordinating the technical and management aspects of the projects.
2. Monitoring of site activities, material requisition, cost control, project supervision, and schedule of works.
3. Assist and support the project manager in handling and monitoring the progress of the project.
4. Responsible for awarding delivery orders and preparing contract-related documents.
5. Responsible for preparing and issuing subcontractor inquiries and the assessment of quotations upon receipt.
6. Maintain contract documentation and provide advice on pre-tender and post-contract matters.

• Performance Optimization: Monitor system performance, fine-tune jobs, and optimize cluster utilization. Manage and resolve performance bottlenecks in big data environments.
• Security Management: Implement data security policies, user authentication (Kerberos), and access control (Ranger, Knox). Regularly review and patch systems to ensure data integrity.
• Backup and Recovery: Plan and implement backup and recovery strategies for big data environments. Develop disaster recovery solutions and test failover scenarios.
• Workflow Automation: Design and implement workflows using tools like Apache Oozie or Apache Airflow. Automate cluster management tasks like upgrades and scaling.

Job Requirements:

• Strong knowledge of big data ecosystems (Hadoop, Elastic search, HDFS, YARN, Hive, HBase, Spark, Kafka).
• Proficiency in Linux/Unix system administration.
• Experience with monitoring tools like Nagios, Grafana, or Splunk.
• Scripting skills in Python, Shell, or Bash.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and their big data services.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Certifications in Hadoop, Cloudera, or related big data technologies are a plus.
• 7-8 years of experience in big data administration or similar roles.
• Hands-on experience in scaling and managing large clusters in production environments.
