As a Utility Engineer, you are required to perform mechanical, electrical, and civil engineering work in the design, construction, operation and maintenance of water systems, electrical systems in power plants, gas pipelines, and other systems in a utility plant.
Responsibilities
· Identify and work with equipment vendors, detailed designers and operations team to actualize designs (go from blank page concept to basis of design, to system specification).
· Managing, maintaining, and monitoring utility systems, including electricity, water and gas. Conducting regular inspections of the systems to ensure functionality and efficiency. Performing maintenance and repair works to maintain system operations.
· Pipeline design including trenchless rehabilitation and trenchless installation design.
· Discuss technical and commercial subjects with customers based on strong communication and presentation skills (both verbal and written).
· Study and develop highly complex business/engineering/system solutions of electrical system and conduct independent studies and research encompassing advanced analytical techniques.
· Supports plant, corporate and contract resources to ensure that compliance projects get developed and submitted in a timely manner.
· Creative problem solver and a team player.
· Strong problem-solving skills for understanding root cause of technical issues.
· Assist engineers in performing engineering research, development and design of new and/or expanded communications networks.
· Provide technical and communication engineering support to other engineers.
· Provide support as needed to the Emergency Operations Center during any declared disaster or emergency.
· Demonstrate a commitment to employee health and safety, particularly through a commitment to zero injuries, awareness of hazards, and a strong understanding of legislative requirements in all aspects of the operation.
Qualifications
· A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in Engineering, Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering
· A minimum of five years of experience with a Utility Team, preferable with a utility company.
· Project experience in of the following areas - generation resource planning, generation project development and site selection, electric rate studies, asset due diligence, market operations and settlements.
· Experience in other enterprise systems such as work management, network analysis, SCADA, customer information, and document management.
· Experience to include public/private utility coordination, right of way, easement and other land rights research, development of potholing plans and all related engineering activities for successful competition of infrastructure replacement/and installation of new infrastructure projects.
