The team:

The role of the Technical Support Engineer is to provide quality and professional post-sales services to our customers via email, phone, text chat or on-site support.

What your day will look like:

Technical Support:

• Use software tools to diagnose and solve complex issues and service outages
• Conceptualize and articulate ideas clearly and concisely
• Resolve problems in compliance with established processes
• Ensure timely escalation of critical customer related issues through proper channels
• Ensure timely resolution of customer issues
• Collaborate with other Technical Support specialists and R&D engineers
• Develop and maintain a strong relationship with new and existing customers
• Develop and maintain an extensive working knowledge of Genetec's solutions
• Contribute to the evolution of our software and Support processes
• Participate in the elaboration of technical documentation and knowledge base article
• Properly document issues encountered in the field in the Genetec trouble ticket system and customer relationship management (CRM) tool

Field Support:

• Perform installation, audit, assessment, maintenance, and technical support of Genetec systems on customer premises
• Provide on-site and off-site professional services to Genetec customers, including proof-of-concept, on-site technical support, system deployment and commissioning, training, audits, and status assessments and will act as a general liaison between Genetec and its customers
• Define product and functional requirements based on customer feedback and facilitate new product development work specific to the customer
• Provide an open forum for questions regarding strategic plans, best practices, and advice on upgrades special concerns, and ad-hoc consulting for software implementation, integration, training, and change requests

About you:

• Minimum Diploma/Degree in Computer Sciences, Computer Engineering, Electronics or equivalent
• 3-5 years working experience in a related role
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills in both hardware and software
• Flexible, with a “can do” attitude, able to multitask, with an ability to manage priorities
• Experience in customer service, technical support, and project management
• Strong sense of urgency with a desire to constantly learn and evolve at the same pace as the software
• Strong team player while possessing the autonomy to manage his own workload
• Experience in physical Security environment
• CCNA qualification
• Fluent and proficient in verbal and written communication in English
• Any other languages will be considered a strong asset
• Must possess a valid driver’s license and passport
• Capacity to travel up to 35% for field engineering assignments

Technical Requirements:

• Excellent administration and troubleshooting knowledge of the various Windows operating systems (Active Directory, file sharing, IIS, clustering, GPO, performance monitoring, etc.)
• Excellent knowledge of networking principles and IP protocols
• Experience with networking equipment configuration and troubleshooting (switches, routers, etc.)
• Experience working with a video security system over IP – CCTV system or Access control.
• Experience working with SQL databases
• Clear understanding of TCP, IP and UDP protocol stack
• Understanding of network storage (SAN, NAS, iSCSI) principles and best practices
• Understanding of server virtualization concepts

Great if you have:

• Programming experience with C#, Visual Basic, VBScript, PowerShell, or similar technologies
• Microsoft SQL Service administration experience
• MCSE, SQL Server, VMware, or similar technical professional certifications
• Deployment and troubleshooting of security systems such as:
• CCTV (IP cameras and encoders, video matrices, DVRs, etc.)
• Access control systems (administration of software, reader, controller, wiring, etc.)
• License plate recognition system and concepts

The Role 

As a Software Engineer (Unity) at Refract Technologies, you'll have a direct hand in shaping our groundbreaking virtual sports products. Your role will see you devising solutions to complex programming challenges, tapping on your knowledge of the Unity engine. 

You’ll be joining a collaborative team – working hand-in-hand with our product and quality assurance teams throughout the entire development lifecycle of each product.

What You’ll Be Doing 

• Develop core features, services and systems for our products utilising Unity, and integrating with internal and external shared services.
• Work on technical designs and architectural solutions for software and hardware components, ensuring scalability and performance.
• Maintain close collaboration and communication with the Product Team to ensure development is aligned with overall feature and product goals. 
• Contribute to the building of real-time networking, and multiplayer functionalities for our game products. 
• Work with the Quality Assurance Team to write unit tests, conduct integration testing and validate software and hardware functionality.
• Participate in code reviews to ensure code quality, consistency, and adherence to coding standards.
• Provide perspective in design discussions to highlight opportunities and potential issues from the programming vantage point. 
• Maintain proper documentation at every interval of the project (APIs, algorithms and design decisions) ensuring continuity and clear propagation of information. 
• Use version control systems to manage source code.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide design guidance on new features. 
• Self-manage programming tasks and coordinate with the production team. 
• Assess new market trends, features, technologies, and emerging techniques to stay competitive. 

Skills and Experience Required 

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent work experience). 
• Understanding of all game development disciplines and their inputs into the content pipeline. 
• End-to-end involvement in the game development lifecycle - from conceptualisation to shipping. 
• Extensive knowledge of Unity and C#. 
• Experience leading a development team. 
• Exposure to an AGILE environment. 
• Be a self-motivated team player with a positive attitude and strong work ethic. 
• Ability to self-manage when given prioritized goals and objectives. 
• Seek out opportunities to improve technically and professionally. 

Significant Add-Ons

While a rough salary range has been indicated, this will be variable based on the candidate proficiency and experience.

What will you do?

What are we looking for?

• Minimum 2 years of experience with modern web applications using JavaScript, Python, Ruby) and a compiled language (statically typed like Golang, Rust)
• Experience with modern web applications in JavaScript (ES 5/6)
• Experience in creation/maintenance of APIs using Node.js and/or front-end development with React.js is highly advantageous.
• Experience with DevSecOps
• Experience in automated testing using JavaScript testing frameworks/libraries such as Karma, Mocha, Chai and Sinon is advantageous.
• Experience with database management/usage (both relational and non-relational) and handling of data in different environments is advantageous.
• Experience in feature testing using a Selenium-based framework; tooling processes for modern web applications using Webpack and Gulp is a nice bonus.
• Experience in using Docker containers, development of CI/CD pipelines, and deployment using cloud services such as AWS/PasSes/your own private servers is a nice bonus.
