About this role
Step into a pivotal role at Arup’s fast-growing Climate and Sustainability team with cross region remit. In this role you'll be continuing the success of a recently promoted team member, with focus on climate risk, adaptation and resilience and will work closely with colleagues across Southeast Asia and Arup globally. We are a multi-disciplinary team with deep technical expertise.
As a Senior Climate Risk and Resilience Consultant, you will support our mission to help shape a better world and to provide advice to support our clients’ resilience futures. Through your work, you will help to advance and implement cutting edge methods that keeps Arup at the forefront of our industry.
What will I do?
- Lead the preparation of and/or conduct climate and disaster hazard, vulnerability, exposure, and risk assessments for policies, plans, strategies, and designs.
- Translate climate science (i.e. climate and hazard models) into risk and impacts data that are useful for projects.
- Provide input on total project delivery for a broad range of city, infrastructure and building projects, addressing how design can respond to climate and disaster risk.
- Integrate climate and disaster risk assessments into city plans (i.e. land use plans, spatial plans, development plans, investment plans), and corporate practices.
- Be confident in international development settings and the provision of climate resilience supporting services from hazard modelling to policy advice.
- Provide contextual background on climate science, disaster risk reduction, and sustainability policies, frameworks, and methodologies for projects in the Southeast Asia region.
What will I bring?
- Master’s degree in Geography, Climate Change, Environmental Management/Science/Engineering, Economics, Finance, or another relevant field.
- Excellent knowledge of climate science, climate system, climate models and interpretation of model outputs for climate change adaptation studies.
- In-depth technical knowledge and 10+ years’ experience providing assistance in relevant areas, such as climate change adaptation (CCA), disaster risk reduction (DRR), climate finance, urban resilience, particularly in Asia.
- In-depth knowledge of CCA and DRR commitments, policies, governance, and frameworks globally and in Southeast Asian countries.
- Experience in developing methodologies, frameworks, indices, or tools related to climate risk and resilience.
- Extensive experience in preparation of policy assessments for CCA and DRR, reviewing national/local adaptation plans, disaster risk reduction plans, formulation of climate investment plans, and other climate and development plans.
- Hands-on Geographic Information Systems (GIS) experience, including integrating GIS approaches into climate and disaster risk assessments.
- Flood (hydrologic) modelling skills.
- Excellent qualitative and quantitative research and analysis skills, including climate data analysis skills (knowledge of scripting e.g., Python and
- GIS experience for climate data and services is highly desirable).
- Able to accommodate travel across Southeast Asia and beyond.
