Use IT tools to automate data collection processes for a research study (e.g., using macros in Microsoft Office applications such as Excel and Word):

• Generate administrative forms, reports and other materials to be sent to schools;

• Collate and check data submitted by schools;

• Communicate and clarify with schools on data submission.

May also be required to perform other administrative tasks.

RA should be meticulous and strong in IT skills. He/she must be able to use IT tools to automate data collection processes (e.g., using macros in Microsoft Office applications such as Excel and Word).

A significant fraction of plastic waste has substandard quality for mechanical and chemical recycling even after sorting and cleaning. The Research Fellow will work on the design, fabrication and testing of a chemical reactor system that will use pyrolysis-chemical vapor deposition (CVD) technology for converting these plastic waste streams (specifically, contaminated and rejected plastics) into multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and hydrogen. The role of Research Fellow is to design a system prototype that can effectively mitigate the impact of impurities from diverse plastic waste streams on production outputs and can be operated in a continuous mode.

Key Responsibilities:

The candidate will be undertaking full research work and administrative duties during the term of employment within the following areas:

• Experimental work on plastic waste conversion into carbon nanotubes and hydrogen.
• Design, procurement, installation and operation of the prototype system;
• Investigation of system performance and determining factors that influence the yield and quality of outputs;
• Development of improvements in system design to mitigate the factors decreasing quality and yield of outputs;
• Development of a continuous process;
• Liaising with vendors regarding the feasibility of scale up and conducting a cost-benefit analysis.

• PhD thesis or postdoctoral experience related to chemical reactor engineering for at least one of the following areas: (a) catalytic reactors, (b) continuous reactors.
• First-author publications in the areas mentioned above.
• High proficiency in English (e.g., TOELF, IELTS, GRE) for preparation of research papers.
• Ability to prepare well-written technical reports and research papers.

Main duties and responsibilities

The Research Fellow (RF) will be responsible to, and work closely with, the Principal Investigator (PI) and study team members to successfully deliver research outcomes pursued in several nationally funded projects:

Ischaemic stroke and cardiovascular diseases, focused on biomarker discovery and validation using preclinical vascular and animal models. A key focus of the work is to understand the reasons why strokes occur and how to identify high-risk individuals for more intensive interventions. This work leverages on a well-phenotyped repository of samples from stroke patients who have been meticulously characterized by whole-exome sequencing, RNA-seq and proteomics and outcomes collected in patients who were followed for more than 10 years.

Qualifications

The applicant should:

1. Have a good PhD degree in life sciences, biomedical sciences, biochemistry or bioengineering from a well-recognized university.
2. Experience with immunohistochemistry, molecular biology, microscopy techniques and computational analytical methods will be considered favorably.

Job Description

Research Fellow position is open in the research group of Assistant Professor Zhao Lin, at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, National University of Singapore (NUS).

The Research Fellow will work closely with the Principal Investigator (PI) on theories and applications of learning-based control. The project will investigate and develop both deep reinforcement learning algorithms and conventional robust adaptive control methods, to develop safety-critical learning-based control algorithms that leverage the advantages of both model-based and model-free methods. In particular, the developed algorithms will be demonstrated through robust control of drones.

The initial appointment duration is 12 months, which can then be extended based on an evaluation at the end of the initial appointment.

The candidates will be responsible for conducting theoretical research and algorithm development. The candidates are expected to help the PI supervise junior PhD students as well.

The candidates should have a Ph.D. degree from a reputable university, with expertise in robust adaptive control, reinforcement learning theory, collision-avoidance trajectory optimization, etc.
