Nanyang Environment and Water Research Institute, NTU is looking for a Research Fellow with expertise in heterogeneous catalysis to develop improved catalyst formulations for conversion of plastic waste into carbon nanotubes and hydrogen.

The project is funded by National Environment Agency, Singapore to address one of the largest problems in waste management – the problem of plastic waste pollution. A significant fraction of plastic waste has substandard quality for mechanical and chemical recycling even after sorting and cleaning. The Research Fellow will use pyrolysis-chemical vapor deposition (CVD) technology for converting these plastic waste streams (specifically, contaminated and rejected plastics) into multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and hydrogen. The role of Research Fellow is to develop catalysts that will allow to reduce catalyst cost and increase carbon nanotubes yield to make the process more economically viable.

Led by experts from NUS and research institutes in Singapore, the Centre aims to drive global food security and accelerate regional innovation. The focus will be on microalgae research and biomass fermentation, to produce high-quality, affordable, and sustainable microbial proteins from microalgae and biomass fermentation that can be further developed into cultured meat and plant-based protein hybrids. Microbial proteins will be cultivated through fermentation and processed using emerging bio-physical techniques for effective biotransformation, to improve digestibility, flavour, and nutritional profile. As a research assistant, you will assist with conducting and monitoring microalgal cultivation bioprocesses via analytical techniques to achieve maximal product titres, yields, and rates. The Choksi research group is seeking a Research Fellow funded by a grant through the C4T Phase 2 No Cost Extension hosted at the Energy Research Institute at NTU (ERIAN). The Research Fellow will help advance foundational knowledge in understanding the stability and synthesizability of porous materials using computational methods. The research fellow will employ electronic structure calculations, first principles thermodynamics, and machine learning methods to develop a paradigm for the predictive synthesizability of porous materials..

The job is for automated high-throughput experimentation and robotic development, running AI-driven automated worklows for thin film development, electrical and opto-electronic characterization as well as device applications. The RF will be responsible for building a fully automated robotic platform to execute the scientific goals laid out in the project, with multi-layer perovskite film deposition and crystallization, followed by rapid characterization to create a database (primarily building upon the SpinBot system we have purchased from SciPrios: https://www.sciprios.de/lab-automation/spincoating-robots/ ). The RF is also expected to execute optimization algorithms developed by the team to identify relevant regions of interest in the input parameter space. Python programming, database management and robotic interfacing (both with robots and electrical and mechanical equipment) is necessary for this job.
