Principal Investigator: Associate Professor Catherine ONG, Department of Medicine

The Infectious Diseases Research Laboratory at the Department of Medicine, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine is looking for highly motivated and well-qualified candidates for the post of Research Fellow to work on Murine models of Tuberculosis. The lab works on translational research i.e. spanning cellular, murine and human TB research. This position provides an excellent opportunity for persons looking to further experience in translational research including robust interactions with clinicians.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The Research Fellow will design and execute experiments in M. tuberculosis infection of mice, processing of samples, and associated readouts including flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry, molecular biology including immunofluorescence. State-of-the art techniques include spatial transcriptomics and bioinformatics can be learnt and applied. Spatial transcriptomic work is also expected from human tissues. The person will lead in the day-to day running of experiments in the Biosafety Level 2 (BSL2) and BSL3 setting, and is expected to work independently, in coordination with other junior and senior team members in the laboratory and clinicians. Supervision of junior lab members such as undergraduates and postgraduate PhD students is expected. Work with live M. tuberculosis is expected in a BSL3 setting. BSL3 experience would be advantageous but not a requirement.

Qualifications

• A PhD degree in life science and skilled in handling murine models
• A minimum of 2 years of BSL2 experience with skills in molecular biology and immunohistochemistry/immunofluorescence

A*STAR Infectious Diseases Labs (A*STAR ID Labs) is seeking for a Research Officer to join us in our mission to be a leading centre of infectious diseases research. A*STAR ID Labs aims to develop a cohesive A*STAR response to drive and deliver translational infectious diseases research to better health and economic outcomes.

The laboratory headed by Dr. Marco Vignuzzi is leading cutting-edge virology and antiviral and vaccine therapies. We are seeking a motivated and fast learner to participate in projects involving the development of RNA therapeutics.

Job Description:

• Produce and assay RNA using techniques such as in vitro transcription, qPCR, and next generation sequencing
• Perform molecular biology assays such as molecular cloning and Western blots
• Perform irological assays in cell culture for a wide variety of RNA pathogens, including chikungunya virus, Zika virus, dengue viruses, enteroviruses
• Perform meticulous recordkeeping and draft reports and presentations to collaborators
• Oversee daily laboratory activities and help manage the lab’s routine admin duties
• Help new students and postdocs settle into the lab, transfer techniques to them, and participate in their research
• Ensure safe technical practices and procedures

Job Requirements

• Bachelor Degree in Biomedical Sciences, Biochemistry, Life Sciences, Biological Sciences, Infectious Diseases, Microbiology, Immunology, or related field
• At least 6 months wet lab experience and relevant experience in molecular biology and in cell culture
• Experience with RNA techniques (RNA extraction, qPCR, next generation sequencing, northern blotting) is preferred
• General lab skills in molecular biology (cloning, PCR)
• Highly motivated and able to work independently and multitask
• Team player with good interpersonal skills
• Good spoken and written communication skills
• A strong desire to constantly learn and acquire new skills

CARES is leading a new project “Sustainable Manufacture of Molecules and Materials (SM3)”, funded by NRF CREATE programme within the Decarbonisation Grand Challenge. SM3 project is a collaboration with NTU, NUS, CARES & the University of Cambridge and EPFL. The broad aim of the project is to develop novel approaches and technologies for fully de-fossilised routes to complex functional molecules and molecular materials. The project will explore novel chemical transformations for conversion of net-zero feedstocks to building blocks typically used in pharma, agrochem and other end applications. The project will also explore novel synthetic methods for conversion of the building blocks into end-use functional molecules. Novel synthesis technologies (photoelectrochemistry, sonochemistry, mechanochemistry, etc), as well as advanced research methods (AI, chemoinformatics, high-throughput synthesis) and process metrics (LCA and technoeconomic analysis) are included in this large project.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking to fill a vacancy of a Research Fellow or a Senior Research Fellow with experience in techno-economics and object-oriented programming. The candidate would have experience in assessing engineering reports and scientific papers on novel synthesis technologies, extracting key process performance parameters. The successful candidate would also have experience in designing and performing simple experimental work in the broad area of process and reaction engineering.

What skills do you have?

Working with chemical process simulators (e.g. Aspen Plus). Coding in Python or C++. Hands-on experimental experience in building and operating chemical reactors on laboratory scale.

The project:

In the context of the multi-partner project HYCOMBS (https://www.cares.cam.ac.uk/research/hycombs/), which is part of Singapore’s CREATE investment in Decarbonisation (https://www.nrf.gov.sg/files/Media_Release_CREATE_Decarbonisation_Challenge_with_ANNEX_A__B_final.pdf), a large number of positions have become available to research hydrogen and ammonia combustion.

The project is a collaborative effort between CARES, CNRS, NTU, NUS, NTNU (National Technical University of Norway) and Tohoku University (Japan). All the positions are held in Singapore and will normally last 2 years in the first instance, with the possibility to extend if funding is available. The successful candidate will be working under the academic supervision of one of the project’s partners depending on the particular skills and interests of the researcher. Short stays in Japan, France and Norway for working in the partner laboratories are envisaged for some of these positions. In the first instance, your application will be reviewed by CARES and re-directed to the appropriate institution and Primary Investigator.

Who are we looking for?

We are seeking highly motivated combustion researchers to work in the following areas:

1) Kinetics: (i) Experiments with flow reactors and laminar flames. The successful applicant will be skilled in analytical combustion chemistry systems such as gas chromatography and laser detection; (ii) Development of detailed and reduced chemical mechanisms. Experience in combustion chemistry modelling is needed.

2) Laminar and turbulent flame fundamentals: (i) Experiments with laminar pulsed and turbulent swirl flames. Skills in flame rig design, laser diagnostics and optical methods for flames are needed. (ii) Modelling with combustion Computational Fluid Dynamics (DNS, LES), with experience in the fundamentals of turbulent combustion, CFD and massively-parallel computations.

3) High-pressure combustion: Experiments and simulations for reciprocating engines and gas turbines. For the experimental positions, the successful candidate must be skilled in optical diagnostics, engine combustion, swirl combustion, fluids handling and data analysis. For the modelling positions, experience in CFD of engines or gas turbine combustors is a prerequisite.

4) Detonations and ignition risk analysis with CFD. The position involves high-order CFD methods for capturing detonations and turbulent flow analysis for ignition. The successful candidate must be experienced with CFD.

What skills will you need?

All positions require a PhD or equivalent research experience in a combustion topic relevant to the above areas, strong motivation to work in a multi-national collaborative team, and extensive experience with report writing, journal publications, and presentations to academic and industrial settings. Connections with industry are part of the project so the researchers will have the opportunity to collaborate with industrial R&D. The experimental positions need strict adherence to Health & Safety protocols and experience in developing experimental facilities at a professional level.

Job Description

Job Requirements

• Possess a master’s degree in energy systems modelling, engineering, or a related quantitative research field.
• Have a deep understanding of and interest in energy and environmental issues, notably the hydrogen economy, hydrogen supply chain, energy security, renewable technologies, and decarbonization strategies.
• Capable of working independently and in collaboration with team members.
• Experience in energy systems modelling, techno-economic analysis, Python programming, or life cycle analysis would be beneficial.

Overview

Reporting to the Nurse Manager, Community Outreach Services, you are required to support the frail and home-bound PNC (Person Needing Care) with home personal care services / HPC Plus services.

Responsibilities:

• Conduct and perform clients’ assessment within 14 working days upon receipt of referral by using various tools provided by AIC including but not limited to the following: Modified Barthel Index (“MBI”) for rehabilitation status and Resident Assessment Form (“RAF”) to determine the patient’s current level of clinical care requirements.
• Review clients’ assessment on functionality and clients and/or caregivers’ satisfaction survey every 6-month period using various tools provided by AIC.
• Ensure cash collected from clients / receipts and account tallies.
• Ensure proper documentation processes are in place for audit purposes and good governance; Timely submission of reports to the governing authorities.
• Report and review feedback provided by care staff on clients’ progress especially Incident Report.
• Provide orientation, coaching and training to reporting staff on periodic basis.

Requirements:

• Registered Nurse, Certified by Singapore Nursing Board
• Degree / Diploma in Nursing
• Minimum 3 years of working experience in Geriatric Care/Hospital setting
• Passionate in working with elderly, willingness to learn
• Open attitude to work in eldercare

Metta Hospice Care (慈光安宁居家护理中心) is a key service provided by the Metta Welfare Association. As a member of the Singapore Hospice Council and the Asia Pacific Hospice Network, Metta Hospice Care provides free home hospice services to terminally ill patients of all ages and backgrounds.

Since our establishment in June 2000, we have supported over 5,000 patients in maintaining dignity and quality of life during their final phase at home. We care for patients referred by medical institutions and general practitioners, typically those diagnosed with life-limiting illnesses such as cancer and end-stage renal failure.

Our comprehensive care includes medical consultations, nursing assessments, and psychosocial support for both patients and their families, with additional emotional and social support provided by our Social Worker as needed.

As a Staff Nurse, the candidate is responsible in the following areas:

• To perform home visits to palliative care patients who are being referred
• To perform nursing assessment on the patients.
• To initiate nursing care plan and implement new measures of management.
• To adjust current medication to achieve maximum symptom control under doctor’s instruction
• To work closely with the Medical Director/Outsourced doctors on the cases.
• To educate caregivers/families on basic nursing procedures to ensure comfort and care
• To refer patients to other professional bodies such as inpatient hospice when the need arises for symptom control or respite care.
• To identify patients and families in need of financial assistance and refer to social worker/counsellor.
• To identify patients and families in need of specialized counseling to the relevant professionals.
• To prepare families for approaching death.
• To provide family with the emotional and bereavement support when necessary

Other Responsibilities

• To participate in Fund raising activities when the need arises.

Requirements:

• Minimum of 3 years of related experience.
• Diploma or degree in Nursing or equivalent, with a Nursing Certificate in Palliative Care.
