Centre for Applied Research

The successful candidate will support the day-to-day activities arising from the research projects and programmes within the University.

The scope of work will involve serving in the secretariat for grant reviews and management, handling the research administrations, tracking and reporting of progress and ensuring compliance of the conduct of these research projects and programmes.

Job Description

The detailed scope of work will include the following:

• Manage grant call activities and research applications.
• Assist in the preparation of documents required for grant reviews.
• Assist in the preparation of budgetary estimates for the department and individual research projects.
• Facilitate the review process and maintain related records.
• Arrange meetings and take minutes during meetings.
• Develop and maintain departmental policies and procedures.
• Maintain the departmental webpage and repositories.
• Provide support for the implementation of research projects and programs.
• Track research expenditures to ensure expenses align with budget allocations and monitor grant utilization rates, providing regular updates.
• Track research KPIs and assist in the preparation of reports for management and funding agencies.
• Assist in audit activities related to research grants and ensure compliance with corporate governance.
• Ensure accurate and timely reporting to internal and external stakeholders/funders.
• Support the department’s initiatives to promote a research culture at SUSS.
• Organize in-house seminars, events, courses, and workshops.
• Serve as a liaison with other public institutions and industry/business partners.
• Handle ad hoc tasks and projects as assigned.

Job Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in any specialized field.
• 2-3 years of experience in research administration (3+ years for senior position).
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with a focus on good English writing ability.
• Self-starter with problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and handle multiple tasks.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and spreadsheet computations.
• Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, and good judgment.
• Ability to perform information research and data collection.
• Team player with a strong work ethic.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead research design, delivery and support
• Assist to guide and mentor junior research associates and research assistants - including reviewing drafts, and keeping open channel of communication for discussions
• Conduct research on a range of dispute resolution topics, including mediation, arbitration, investor-state dispute settlement, and produce quality articles to be published in industry journals, blogs, or academic journals
• Speak at and attend events to profile SIDRA's research and present on topics in dispute resolution
• Key liaison between SIDRA and other dispute resolution institutions, training partners, Government officials, experts, NGOs and other organisations
• Oversee the planning and management for SIDRA's events during the annual Singapore Convention Week, and other SIDRA events on an ad hoc basis
• Assist with editing, formatting, cite-checking and revision of SIDRA research products
• Prepare and manage the Steering Committee meetings, including overall management of research proposals
• Prepare SIDRA's reports to the University, Government officials, and to other stakeholders
• Work with Centre Manager to draw up budgets, execute vendor agreements, and ensure standard operating procedure compliance
• Administer the accreditation for SIDRA's training programmes with the Singapore International Mediation Institute and International Mediation Institute, and other training progarmmes as necessary, and publicise training courses
• Maintaining SIDRA's online presence and social media by curating posts on SIDRA's events and trips
• Assist the Director and Deputy Director on general matters relating to stakeholder management and research staff
• Supervise student research assistants

• Post-doctorate/post-graduate degree {LLM or JD)/degree in law, desirable but not strictly essential

About The Role

Project Summary
The Behavioural Insights Centre of Excellence in SUSS is seeking a qualified research executive to support the study of “Development and Validation of a Platform Worker Occupational Well-being Indicator Tool”. The approach to this project will be through interviews, and surveys. The intent of the project is to develop and validate an indicator tool for platform workers to measure their occupational well-being. The project is scheduled to run for one year.

What You Will Be Doing

• Oversee the general management and administration of the project (e.g., organise meetings, recording meeting minutes),
• Manage project timeline and ensure project milestones/ deliverables are met,
• Perform literature reviews,
• Assist with designing and conducting of qualitative and quantitative research tasks (e.g., interviews, surveys), and perform data processing and analysis tasks,
• Maintain related documentation of project, and management of tokens for respondents,
• Assist in procurement processes (e.g., purchase of tokens for focus group participants), and
• Contribute to development and writing of report.

Job Requirements

Qualification / Experience Required

• Have a bachelor’s degree or hold a Master’s degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., Educational Technology, Learning Sciences, Educational Psychology, Psychology)
• Have experience in independent social science research
• Familiarity with qualitative and quantitative research methods is essential
• Be able to work independently with minimal supervision
• Be able to work collaboratively in a team

We will workwith specific customers so we can build useful applications on top of that infrastructure.You will contribute to the design and development of open-source software written to serve those use cases.You will work as part of a team of research engineers, developers, and domain expertise and you will beexpected to actively participate in team meetings and text-based communications. You will be expected to beactive members of the applied research community, by validating and contributing to advances incomputational law.

You may be asked to conduct use-inspired research at the direction of the Principal Investigator. This includes

• reading academic papers, standards publications, and related material such as blog posts andpresentations;
• coming up to speed in fields which may be new to you, such as computational linguistics, mathematicallogic, programming language design, formal verification, and model-based architecture;
• reading (and updating/commenting, relevant) existing software documentation;
• creating presentations, video recordings, walkthroughs, etc. to document and explain research work done;
• writing (and presenting, if so decided by the PI) academic papers and materials for publication; and
• documenting in a sufficiently-detailed manner so as to share what you've learned.

You will be expected to participate in software development; this includes

• learning how to use third party tools, including editors, IDEs, databases, business process modeling software, programming languages, and libraries;
• evaluating competing software systems for suitability;
• building infrastructure to enable application development
• managing yourself, and managing fellow team members;
• engaging in product, project, and program management as needed
• reading books and consuming such other media forms about software development;
• writing documentation such as user/developer-facing manuals, tutorials;
• delivering community support to users and customers;
• preparing presentations to represent the project before external audiences; and
• writing actual user-facing applications throughout the "full stack",in each case, documenting, reporting, and/or presenting the same in clearly and efficiently, both internally and externally.

Researchers under the Programme should possess both mastery of their academic speciality, anddemonstrated practical experience producing and supporting high-quality open-source code throughcommunity engagement across multiple media. • During the pre-award stage: Assist grant applicants who are interested in applying for research grants, and review research grant applications so as to ensure that the applications meet the funding agencies' requirements.
• During the post-award stage: Review progress reports and grant variations prepared by grant awardees for onward submission to funding agencies.
