The candidate will work on primary cells from cohorts and cell culture systems towards understanding functional immune responses in skin immune interactions and recapitulating them in in-vitro and ex-vivo systems. Additional work involves cellular and stimulation assays with flow cytometry and FACS analysis along with imaging by microscopy, and associated data analysis with statistical tested.

Identifying why some NASH patients develop HCC while others do not is a significant challenge, with growing evidence indicating that immune dysregulation plays a crucial role in this progression. The interstitial space, where cells receive nutrients and signals, significantly impacts immune function, suggesting that understanding the liver"s metabolic environment could reveal how immune cells behave during NASH progression to HCC. By profiling interstitial fluid metabolism and single-cell transcriptomics, the team aims to understand the metabolic regulation of the immune landscape in NASH to NASH-HCC progression. Using a high-fat, high-fructose, and high-cholesterol dietary mouse model that mirrors human progression, the team will study the metabolic and immune changes leading to NASH-HCC. In addition, the team’s preliminary findings show immune alterations and reduced levels of the bile acid hyodeoxycholic acid (HDCA) during NASH-HCC transition. The identified candidate will also test the potential of HDCA in preventing NASH to HCC transition, and further explore HDCA"s effects on immune cells.

Integrative data analysis and in silico rank scoring revealed a list of promising secreted factor candidates. We will be using model organisms (e.g. mice, zebrafish) to conduct phenotypic screens and prioritize candidates for detailed validation, characterization, mode-of-action studies and therapeutic strategies.

A Research fellow position is available in Dr. Anand Andiappan Laboratory at the Singapore Immunology Network (SIgN). The successful candidate will support the research work that focuses on studying inflammaeing in the context of skin aging in Asian populations.

The candidate will work on primary cells from cohorts and cell culture systems towards understanding functional immune responses in skin immune interactions and recapitulating them in in-vitro and ex-vivo systems. Additional work involves cellular and stimulation assays with flow cytometry and FACS analysis along with imaging by microscopy, and associated data analysis with statistical tested.

Duties will include managing safety in the laboratory, creating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and laboratory risk assessments, maintaining laboratory inventories, perform other laboratory administrative duties and operations such as ordering and tracking laboratory budget.

Job Requirements:

• PhD Degree in Skin Immunology, Life sciences, Biomedical sciences, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology or equivalent
• Preferably with at least 5 years experience in dermatology, immunology, molecular allergy and clinical immunology
• Experience with human and mouse blood/tissue sample handling and in vitro cell culture and processing (e.g. isolation of specific immune cell populations, differentiation and activation assay)

The Planetary Health Initiative is SDGHI’s newest strategic initiative. Planetary health pertains to the integrated state of health of both people and the planet. It recognizes that people’s health is now greatly shaped by human-driven global environmental change, such as climate change, environmental pollution, rapid urbanisation, biodiversity loss, among others. Addressing these interlocking challenges requires concerted actions within and beyond the health sector, spanning diverse disciplines and nations.

During the Initiative’s inaugural phase, the Institute will focus on launching new educational and capacity-building activities, conducting landscape analysis of the current state of play especially at the regional level, exploring research collaborations with other planetary health-oriented groups within Singapore and beyond, and implementing policy influencing and advocacy activities – all geared towards positioning the Institute as an emerging thought leader in planetary health in Asia and beyond.

Host Pathogen Interactions Lab in A*STAR Infectious Diseases Labs (A*STAR IDL) is actively seeking a Scientist to join our mission of becoming a leading center for infectious diseases research. A*STAR IDL is dedicated to advancing translational research in infectious diseases to improve both health and economic outcomes.

Job Description:

We are seeking a talented researcher to lead the research on a 3 year funded research project as well as develop novel ideas in the broad scope of host-pathogen interactions and infectious diseases. Preliminary data gathered will help develop the researcher’s career and path to independence through the various early-career support available internally in A*STAR as well as in the Singapore ecosystem.

The funded project will aim to characterize and compare host-alphavirus interactions at the immune response level in vivo in animal models through a novel viral-centric approach. Preliminary data of the lab has shown a differential adaptive immune response polarization between two alphaviruses and identified, via in vivo comparative multiOmic approaches, a set of candidate host factors potentially responsible for the phenotype. The project will entail a close characterization of these host factors and their role in the viral life cycle as well as the modulation of the immune response of small animal model to these viruses. In addition to multi-Omics approaches (including single-cell and spatial), protein-protein interactions, microscopy, functional genomics, viral reverse genetics and CRISPR Cas9 gene editing will be some of the tools used to investigate this viral hijacking and understand the host-viral interplay. Animals models available in the lab include mice and zebrafish. Downstream of characterization will aim to validate these targets in small preclinical models for subsequent drug discovery in the A*STAR ecosystem. Throughout the project, close collaborative work within A*STAR IDL as well as other institutes throughout Singapore and overseas will be used to leverage expertise for high impact studies.
